Session Formats
The AAP conference offers sessions in a variety of formats to enhance your educational experience. Note the detailed descriptions for formats below. Every session (except workshops and courses) is open to all who have paid the general registration fee.
Understanding Session Codes
AAP Conference session codes include letters and numbers for a very specific purpose. The letter in a session code indicates the format (P=Plenary Sessions; A=Audience Response Case Discussions; X=Meet-the-Expert Discussions; F=Selected Short Subjects; S=Seminars; W=Workshops; I=Interactive Group Forums; H=Section/Council Programs; C=Courses; and V=Special Events that do not offer CME credit). The number in a session code indicates the day. (0000-level=pre-conference; 1000-level=day 1; 2000-level=day 2; 3000-level=day 3; and 4000-level=day 4).
(A) Audience-Response Case Discussions
ARSs convey an in-depth review or update on a specific topic, with emphasis on practical information for general pediatricians. This information is conveyed through the interactive discussion of cases prepared by faculty combined with audience use of the audience response system (ARS) keypads to answer multiple-choice questions. Results are tabulated, and explanations about the correct answers follow. Keypads will be available for 150 participants in each session.
Morning Sessions: 8:30 am – 10:00 am
Early Afternoon Sessions: 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Late Afternoon Sessions: 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
(I) Interactive Group Forums
IGFs are highly interactive, giving attendees an opportunity to hone a specific skill. Under the guidance of faculty, attendees will break into small groups to practice role-playing, engage in problem solving, and participate in techniques that have been demonstrated. To ensure optimal interaction, attendance is typically limited to 40 participants.

10:30 am – 12:10 pm
(H) Section/Council Programs
Developed by sections and councils of the AAP, section and council programs provide a forum for the advanced discussion of clinical matters or research developments related to a particular subspecialty or special interest area. While geared toward section and council members, some programs may be of particular interest to general pediatricians as well. Education sessions are open to all attendees and their family members who have paid the general registration fee.
Session dates and times vary by section and council; please consult the program for details.
