Established in 1957, AEC is a senior manufacturer of acoustic, flat panel operable walls. AEC can produce both electrically and manually operated walls to heights exceeding 40 feet. AEC's most ruggedly constructed panels are robotically fusion welded steel panels with 14-gauge components and furnished with 20-year warranties. Other steel panels have 10 or 5-year warranties. Supertack suspension systems are furnished with 5 and 10-year warranties that do not exclude normal wear and tea. AEC guarantees field sound test results (NIC) for each of its many panel constructions, provided that the surrounding building construction is compatible with the specified rating. While STC ratings (laboratory sound testing) may give an indication of an operable wall's ability to stop sound it is often not indicative of the operable wall's performance when the product is field sound tested. Field sound testing will verify actual performance as it is conducted on the installed product not a small laboratory specimen in a controlled environment. AEC offers any of its welded steel panel constructions as curved elements. Both tracks and panels are curved elements. These curved elements provide a design flexibility not available from other operable wall manufacturers. While AEC has installed several electrically operated curved walls, there are some restrictions when the wall is to be electrically operated. Close factory coordination is required during the project development to insure client satisfaction. In addition to operable walls designed and built to last the life of your building, AEC also produces glass operable walls suitable for interior/exterior application. These walls consist of steel framed glass panels and can be manual or electric operation. Panel height can exceed 25 ft. Most recently, AEC has developed and is in the process of installing an interior/exterior operable wall designed to withstand 110 mph wind loads with a "C" exposure. An assembly consisting of suspension components, tracks, trolleys and 25' high panel successfully withstood loads in excess of 100 pounds per square foot without failure. As required by IBC, 2006, paragraph 1714.3 the test loads are 2.5 times higher that the load generated by a 110 mph wind. Panels are designed as weight transfer elements with the panel load resting on the floor when setup or stored. In the setup position the operable wall will accommodate a 2" structural deflection due to snow loads. Several years ago AEC developed VISION, a rear projection screen shield. The electrically operated shield is microprocessor controlled. All panels move simultaneously at various speeds to arrive fully opened or fully closed simultaneously. When setup the shield is co-planar with the adjacent room walls. Since its inception the product has been improved upon to accommodate larger and taller applications. Visitors to the Congressional Visitors Center in Washington DC may see several of these larger AEC VISION products in use. Whatever your acoustic operable wall need, it is possible that AEC already has a solution. Please visit AEC online at www.advancedequipment.com or call us at 714-635-5350.
