 Press Releases

  • At FABTECH 2017 in booth #A5621, a COE Press Equipment coil line is feeding an Aida 300-ton servo press, which will be stamping parts from 0.177 in. (4.5 mm) thick material.  The line is designed for processing stainless steels up to 50,000 PSI and a roll speed of 580 feet/minute.

The press feeding line is comprised of a COE ServoMaster Series 2, 24-in. wide roll feed; a Series 250, 2.5-in. x 24-in. power straightener; and a 15,000-lb. x 24-in. coil reel including a hydraulic coil car with remote jog pendant.  The ServoMaster™ Touch controller features a user-friendly 5.7-in. VGA color touchscreen interface with customized operator screens featuring easy entry of machine set-up information. There are centralized controls for the straightener and reel.

For handling surface sensitive materials, the equipment features a #5 satin chrome finish on the upper and lower feed rolls as well as upper and lower entrance pinch rolls, and non-marking chrome straightener rolls. For enhanced safety, the coil reel has an extra set of heavy duty coil keepers and an air-operated coil hold down arm.

  • COE Press Equipment Announces New Oscillating Servo Shear
Swing Shear Offers Smooth Repeatable Precision with Reduced Maintenance

COE Press Equipment has announced the availability of its new Oscillating Servo Shear to enhance its comprehensive line of press feed line offerings.  This new servo-powered product, as compared to hydraulic shears, is designed to significantly reduce maintenance time and costs as well as providing energy savings and noise reduction. Additionally, the smooth operation of the servo shear provides the ability to cut both rectangular and trapezoidal blanks with reliable, repeatable precision.

“Our goal is to continually enhance our customer’s ability to process materials in the most efficient and cost-effective manner,” said Steve Donnay, director of sales and marketing. “By eliminating the hoses, the fluids, the air, the clutch and all the energy associated with hydraulic systems, this product offers our customers many advantages.”

Totally self-contained, the new servo shear relies upon a slew ring to support the weight of the shear.  This design allows the shear to swivel in back and forth with the help of a second servo axis, attaining different angles for the cut.  The COE Servo Shear can handle coil materials from 24-in. to 78-in. wide and up to 0.25-in. thick.  When run in continuous mode, the system is capable of reaching speeds of up to 240 SPM, depending upon the width of the material being run.

    Maintenance Reduction

With hydraulic systems, which are constantly under high pressure and high flow rates, components tend to deteriorate; hoses chafe, fittings come, fluids and filters have to be changed regularly. A servo system eliminates all the piping, hoses, filters and much of the lubricant for ease of maintenance.

    Energy Savings
Gravity has little effect on a a servo motor in a resting state, requiring very little energy to hold it in a balanced position between cycles. With hydraulic systems, the power unit is running at the same rate all the time regardless of whether the shear is cycling or not and energy is constantly dissipated through heat loss. Additionally, the clutch and brake also require energy and compressed air, where large amounts can be expended into the atmosphere

    Noise Reduction
The shear moves in a very smooth, controlled sinusoidal motion which is very quiet in contrast to the top and bottom slamming of a conventional shear.

  • COE ANNOUNCES NEW SPACEMASTER® SERIES 5 COIL FEED LINES
Handles high strength materials in space constrained areas

COE Press Equipment has announced the launch of its new patent pending SpaceMaster® Series 5 compact coil lines, which combine unwinding, straightening and feeding of coil stock into a single piece of compact equipment that can fit within 28 ft. of floor space where a conventional line would require a 50-ft. to 60-ft. footprint.

The servo-driven feeder-straightener has 5-in. diameter straightening rolls and 6.7-in. diameter pinch rolls for processing heavy-gauge and high-strength materials. The straightener rollers provide a smaller radius around which to bend the material to accommodate advanced high strength steels (AHSS), which need to be bent more severely in order to exceed higher yield points. Featuring COE’s advanced heavy duty straightener head design, the SpaceMaster Series 5 enables stampers and fabricators to process a wider range of materials including materials with yield strengths up to 1000 Mpa.

Another key feature of the SpaceMaster Series 5 design is its servo-driven pilot release, which momentarily relieves built up stress and binding of the strip through the feed and die due to feed length variation, misalignment, or camber of the coil strip. Whereas most roll feeds and feeder-straighteners are provided with air or hydraulic operated pilot release mechanism, COE’s design provides more accurate piloting timing, faster pilot release, and higher SPM’s. The systems also feature powered pull-off rolls to maintain tension on heavy-gauge and high-strength materials.

The SpaceMaster Series 5 lines are capable of handling materials from .040-in to 0.620-in. thick, 24-in. to 72-in. wide, and 10,000-lb. to 60,000-lb. coil weights.  Materials capable of being processed include CRS, HRS, AHSS, stainless and aluminum.  The systems are capable of press feeding speeds of 50 to 60 SPM.
