 Press Releases

  • From the websites of Shop Floor Automations in La Mesa, CA (June 1, 2016) – Shop Floor Automations (SFA) is excited to announce the display of our latest tool in the Shop Floor Automations Connect line at HOUSTEX 2017. The Multi Connect is a turnkey device, able to continuously monitor the machine’s operating state and other necessary data, while making this information readily available over a network connection using the industry standard MTConnect protocol. The Multi Connect is compatible with a wide range of machine monitoring software packages, including Scytec’s DataXchange, Predator’s Machine Data Collection, and more!

What originally required two different devices combined for the desired result, the Multi Connect replaces in one product! This “configure & go” hardware connects to a variety of equipment via built-in digital I/O, which can be overlaid on existing signals for monitoring cycle start, cycle stop, alarm, and status indictors, such as stack lights. These inputs support 10 to 30 VDC signals and may be configured to detect on/off/pulse type signals. The user can then map the data signals to the MTConnect standard data items.

Network access is provided by a wired Ethernet (100Base-TX) connection in addition to built-in WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n). Additionally, for applications requiring DNC connectivity through serial (RS-232/422/485), single- and dual- port models are available.

Small and compact, it is designed for direct machine mounting (DIN-rail mountable), packaged in compact and rugged metal chassis. The unit accepts 12 to 48 VDC input power, while all models are equipped with redundant power inputs to ensure uninterrupted operation for industrial applications.

Some features of the Multi Connect include MicroSD for configuration backup and wireless client function for flexible integration. Along with the all features mentioned, a reliability warranty also comes with this product and covers the hardware for 5 years.

The SFA Connect line of products includes the USB Connect, Floppy Connect, LAN Connect, and Ethernet Connect. All of these products help enhance machine shops with automation tools that help make their operations more effective and efficient. The Multi Connect was developed in partnership with Moxa and is available from SFA.

  • Shop Floor Automations (SFA) is bringing an artillery of tools for the manufacturing field to HOUSTEX 2017. From software updates to a new hardware solution, the nearly two-decade-old company seeks to further enhance the manufacturing industry.

A reseller of Predator Software since 1998, SFA will be informing tradeshow goers about new software versions. Updates to Predator Software, including the incredibly versatile Touch HMI, will provide solutions from this brand for machine monitoring, DNC communication, CNC program editing, document control, and tool management, will soon be available to view at HOUSTEX.

Looking to replace bar code readers, hand-held terminals, or proprietary hardware on the shop floor? Want simplified data collection to see why your machines are down, and be able to access this information via a tablet, PC, or even via the CNC Controller? Need buttons to transfer NC programs, or launch the part drawing on the shop floor for the operator? Predator Touch HMI is changing the need to invest in hardware and provides shop floor operators an easy way to interact with management and the Predator Software line. From custom color-coding options to setting up specific layouts, prompts, and launching of third party applications, SFA will integrate the solution for the end user as desired without a large investment.

Also in the realm of software updates, DataXchange Machine Monitoring from Scytec will be experiencing changes that SFA will be speaking to tradeshow attendees about. New OEE charts, views from their real time dashboard, multiple part time analysis reports, a shop floor layout view in the dashboard, and various equipment status comparison charts that analyze equipment utilization across a span of different days are all new features. Scytec pricing now includes a greater quantity discount for machine monitoring when adding machines with MTConnect, Fanuc Focas, and legacy machine tools.

The SFA Connect Hardware Series of products, re-branded in Summer of 2016, includes the USB Connect, Floppy Connect, LAN Connect, Ethernet Connect, and more. All Connect products help machine shops enhance and empower themselves with automation tools that make operations more efficient and effective.

There are two new pieces that have been added to the Connect Series. First, the Multi Connect, which was developed in partnership with Moxa and will be available from SFA in 2017. There is also the WiFi USB Connect, which was released in Fall of 2016. For more info on these or any SFA products, call the sales department at 877-611-5825.

There are also many other software and hardware solutions that SFA will be able to discuss with tradeshow attendees at HOUSTEX. Visit their website at www.shopfloorautomations.com for more information!

  • Shop Floor Automations (SFA) re-branded their Hardware line as the Connect Series in the Summer of 2016. Aside from the announcement of the Multi Connect, which is anticipated for release in 2017, there is another product that has recently been made part of the Wireless Connect family.

The WiFi USB from SFA boasts these technical aspects:

The WiFi USB Connect from Shop Floor Automations is a wireless USB solution for the manufacturing shop floor. It emulates a USB stick, allowing you to share data from a PC to your machines. No drivers are required - after a quick web configuration, plug it in and it’s ready!

The device serves as an easy and economic shop floor upgrade. Data can be stored on a remote PC, or locally in the device’s memory, with the device itself providing up to 128 MB of storage.

Floppy drive emulators and CNC machines with a USB port can now have wireless abilities!  You will also have different transfer modes to customize your storage solutions.

You can set the WiFi USB Connect to rename, move, or delete a file after transferring. Data sources include network shares, FTP, email, SMB, cloud services, etc.

One of the benefits of this device will be that machine will see the files at their machine on the USB as soon as they are added to shared folder. Machinists will not need to walk to the programmer or find them to get needed answers. Also, a wireless connection to the shared folder will eliminate cabling needs for control.

For more information on the WiFi USB Connect, please visit ShopFloorAutomations.com or call (877) 611-5825.
