  • BIG Daishowa RBX12 Air Power Spindle
    The RBX12 Air Power Spindle is a high-speed air-driven spindle that achieves an impressive variable rotational speed of 100,000-120,000 RPM....

  • The newest air-driven spindle, produced by BIG Daishowa Seiki, enables existing machines to be cost-effectively upgraded to perform high-speed micro-machining in a normal machining center since this tool is driven by air supplied through a stop block or through the machine spindle. Since there is no rotation of the machining center spindle required, your expensive machine tool spindle can be used without wear.

    Operating at such high speeds helps to improve machining accuracy, enhance surface finish, significantly lengthen tool life, as well as reduce wear on the cutting tool since it will be running at the speeds intended.

    High-speed operation also means that processing time can be reduced. In various trials, the RBX12 was able to reduce machining time by more than 300% because of higher rotational speed.

    Due to its ceramic ball bearings and ultra-precise collet system, the runout accuracy of the RBX12 is excellent, which enables ultra-thin wall cutting. The AA-grade Mega Micro Collet guarantees 1-micron runout at the collet nose, and the .004” collapsibility assures a near-perfect concentric clamping of a micro-tool shank.

    The RBX12 also minimizes thermal displacement in the Z-axis for top precision – constant at <.001mm while a standard machining center spindles have up to .012mm.

    The RBX12 is available with BCV40, BBT30/40 & HSK-A63/F63/E32 interfaces, and models not requiring a stop block have an extremely small body diameter of Ø32mm (Ø1.260”). For further cost savings, automatic tool change is possible.

  • The Speroni MAGIS benchtop tool presetter is now available in a CNC version for operator-independent measuring results. Latest-generation electronics and motors allow for fast movement and repeatable positioning of the X and Z axes and spindle, delivering full CNC measuring with uncertainty of the two linear axes of +/- 1 µm. With the MAGIS CNC, users can automatically execute measuring cycles, adding speed and precision to what’s already one of the most intuitive and easy-to-use vision system tool presetters on the market.

    The included Speroni original workbench provides an enclosed, yet ventilated, storage area with a lockable door to prevent any tampering with your presetter PC. Additional bench features include molded pockets for inserts and screws, storage for various wrenches, and holders for multiple reduction sleeves and other accessories.

    Standard features like thermally-stable pearlitic class 40 cast iron construction, a tool management database storing data for unlimited tool assemblies, 270-degree access to the tools while in the spindle and sub-pixel and sub-micron resolution all support unmatched accuracy and repetitive positioning and assembly. The MAGIS series is also the only bench-top presetter in the world available with an optional built-in Retention Knob Clamping, which provides a strong and repeatable seating in the spindle, mimicking that of the machine tool. 

    The unit also comes standard with a progressive scan CCD camera with high accuracy telecentric optics with virtual magnification of 45x – with a powerful zoom function for quick zoom up to 120x! Additionally, an Episcopy Front Ring Light system provides a light source for manual inspection of the tool tip/insert on the vision screen. The system is complete with a variable adjustment knob for the proper inspection of the different types of coated inserts.

    The MAGIS CNC has a standard X axis range of -2.00 inches (-50mm) to +14.00 inches (+350mm) and is available in three column sizes, with 16-inch (400mm), 20-inch (500mm), and 24-inch (600mm) travel in the Z axis, making it suitable for most offline tool measurement and presetting needs.

    The Speroni MAGIS CNC revolutionizes the way software is used in offline tool measurement. Software companies add screens, windows and menus in order to give the user more features. Speroni took a simpler approach, combining all of the needed features and functions in a user-friendly, clean and trouble-free single-screen user interface. The CNC version comes standard with Speroni Edge 2.0 software which allows CAM interfacing and is ready to be implemented with RFID systems.

  • BIG KAISER introduces the EWN & EWD Smart Damper - precision boring heads with a patented damping system to eliminate vibration in deep-hole finish boring.

     

    The integral design of these new heads shortens the distance from the damping mechanism to the cutting edge, which is the source of vibration. This produces higher damping effects to the tool assembly to minimize the chatter or vibration – thus achieving better surface finishes and improved metal removal rates.

     

    “For precision machining of deep bores, it had previously been necessary to program low cutting parameters in order to prevent vibrations, which unnecessarily increases machining time”, says Jack Burley, VP Sales & Engineering of BIG KAISER. “The EWN/EWD Smart Damper overcomes this problem, and enables high cutting parameters to be used. This means that extremely short turnaround times can be achieved, which improves productivity by up to a factor of ten.”

     

    Our tests have shown that deep holes free of vibration can be bored with an excellent surface finish with dramatic time savings. For example, with a projection length of 14.3” working with high-carbon steel at a cutting speed of 1,300 SFM, an impressive feed rate of 11.4 IPM was achieved with the EWN41 Smart Damper.

     

    The newest Smart Damper solution is either equipped with the tried-and-true EWN analog boring head series, or the latest digital technology in the EWD series. The EWN heads feature a dial with Ø.0005”/div setting accuracy (.0001” w/ Vernier). The EWD heads have a large digital screen, which clearly shows adjustments to an accuracy of Ø.00005”, thus helping to minimize operator errors and removing the need for complicated Vernier markings. The digital display can be reset to zero at the push of button and has an auto power off function, while the current position of the cutting edge will be shown automatically again due to direct path measurement when the tool is switched on.

     

    The new Smart Damper is compatible with BIG KAISER’s modular CK/CKB system, which means that the length of tool combinations can be freely selected up to a maximum of ten times the diameter, and are capable of being ran on nearly every major spindle interface. All tools are coolant-through, and thanks to three different insert holders per head size, an extraordinary boring range is possible. For example, the EWN and EWD68 heads can bore a range of Ø2.677”-5.906”! For additional peace of mind, all BIG KAISER EWD heads have a seal rating of IP 69K – the highest possible.

Now come two new additions to the 138 series that make it an even more powerful and versatile solution for demanding workholding scenarios—the ESM 138 Turbo and the ERGO 138.

    These new versions share the same fundamental body dimensions—diameter, bolt hole pattern, open port orientation, knob type, etc.—making them direct swaps for the original ESM 138 that operators have come to rely on. The ESM 138 Turbo and ERGO 138 also boast all of Unilock’s core features—including quick and easy setup and loading, self-guided top-side mounting, and the strength and consistency of zero-point clamping.

    What’s Special about the ESM 138 Turbo
    This improved version of the ESM 138 chuck has a closed back. This gives the chuck turbo capability, which more than doubles the spring-only clamping force, up to roughly 3,520 lbs, by simply connecting an air source to either the 1/8G turbo port on the OD, or the underside o-ring port. The sealed back also protects the chuck’s piston from contaminants, reducing maintenance while improving consistency.

    Another new design feature appearing in the ESM 138 Turbo is slotted pin actuation. The dual-angled slot allows for faster and stronger transfer of clamping force upon closing, as well as a quicker, even release of the knob.

    What’s Special about the ERGO 138
    The ERGO 138 also has a sealed back, protecting the internal mechanics from contamination and making it turbo-capable. In another effort to help maintain clean operations, the back cover has an air blast port which cleans the knob upon entry. By connecting an air source, operators can clean the chuck and knob before locking it, ensuring firm and consistent positioning during loading/unloading and preserving the equipment. It’s ideal for fine-particle materials like cast iron.

    The ERGO 138 is 11mm shorter than the standard ESM 138, featuring a new body height of 28mm, providing more workable area. Rectangular clamping pins are substituted for standard round pins and now lock the knob more securely with a knee-type lock—reducing the chance of slippage. The inner contact ring has been expanded to Ø80mm, offering a larger contact surface area than the ESM 138’s Ø60mm. These features add improved characteristics, but do not affect the ability to exchange with original ESM 138 chucks on a 1-for-1 basis.
