  • EXSYS Offers 5-Axis Rotary Table TAP for Small Vertical Machining Centers

SAN ANTONIO, Fla., October 18, 2017 – EXSYS Tool Inc., the exclusive North America supplier of Swiss-manufactured pL LEHMANN ultra-high precision rotary tables, has introduced a new space-saving 5-axis rotary table TAP for small, high speed vertical machining centers. The table TAP allows users to upgrade a vertical machining center to significantly increase productivity without incurring the expense of a new machine.

In conjunction with the right machine, the 5AX rotary table TAP creates a very compact and economical 5-axis machining center for small and medium-sized work pieces up to a cube of approximately 5.9" (150 mm). It is well suited for automotive suppliers as well as the medical device, watch/clock and precision mechanical parts industries, and even contract manufacturing.

The 5AX rotary table TAP expands the pL LEHMANN 500 series of modular multi-axis rotary tables from four basic models to five. Adaptable to nearly any workpiece or production situation, 500 series tables can be assembled into as many as 240 different configurations. More than 20 different clamping methods and behind-the-spindle accessories that include rotary unions, special clamping cylinders and angular position measuring systems further extend the system’s adaptability.

Compact pL Lehmann tables consume a minimum of space in the machine work envelope, facilitating optimal tool access to the workpiece. Despite their space-efficient dimensions, the tables and spindles offer strong resistance to pull-out torque and axial force while providing high levels of clamping torque. Engineered for low power consumption and light weight, the tables feature IP67 rated enclosures.

The series includes both single-spindle and multi-spindle tables that are available in 4-axis and 4/5-axis versions. Swiveling-bridge-style 4-axis tables employ the roto-FIX clamping yoke for machining of multiple parts. The tables’ backlash-free preloaded gear drives (PGD) provide both high torque and high rotation speeds, with spindles capable of 47-111 rpm and cycle times for 90 degrees of 0.34 sec. pL Lehmann 5-axis tables operate in simultaneous machining or productivity-enhancing 3+2 positioning modes.

  • SAN ANTONIO, Fla., October 18, 2017 – EXSYS Tool, Inc. has further expanded its EPPINGER gearbox offerings to include the HT-type hypoid gearboxes that feature  compact, robust designs suitable for both specific and dynamic applications.

The EPPINGER HT-type hypoid gearboxes have Monobloc housings that distinguish this series with extreme stability and offers maximum precision and efficiency. A highly flexible flange and coupling system enables the gearboxes to be connected to a host of servo motors without difficulty.

With solid steel alloy and hollow shafts for shrink disc connection, users can install the gearboxes in various positions with a choice of the output side. Currently, the gearboxes are available in four sizes in the ratio range from i = 5:1 to i = 15:1.

Heavy-duty bevel gears, designed and manufactured according to the Gleason process provide optimal gearing efficiency, high transmission precision and reduced load on bearings. Users also gain extremely secure torque transmission through a friction-locked, zero backlash connection of the crown gears on the drive shaft. The tooth flanks are ground to handle heavy operating demands on transmission performance at minimal tooth clearance. Such precise gear settings are achieved through constant measuring of the gear components and 100 percent test running during assembly.

In addition to extreme stability and precision, the hypoid gearbox housing offers exact positioning of the bearing seats and an integrated reinforced input neck that ensures a secure motor connection. Screw holes in the housing edges also enable a stable connection of the gearbox for various installation positions.

Steel alloy shafts with super-finished bearing seats serve as the basis for high-accuracy, heavy-duty taper roller bearings, while precise positioning at setting of the bearings is done through the use of ground steel shims and splinting of the inner rings.

EPPINGER ensures all its hypoid gears are developed on modern GLEASON milling and grinding centers. GLEASON and ZEISS measuring machines along with GLEASON test equipment ensure each gear complies with the quality requirements of DIN 3965 and American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) at all times.

Hypoid gearboxes are available with solid and hollow shaft for shrink disc connection with selectable output side.  Designs with robot flange are also available upon request.
