  • BIG KAISER is introducing the RBX12 Air Power Spindle, a high-speed air-driven spindle that achieves an impressive variable rotational speed of 100,000-120,000 RPM. It enables existing machines to be cost-effectively upgraded to perform high-speed micro-machining in a normal machining center since this tool is driven by air supplied through a stop block or through the machine spindle. Since there is no rotation of the machining center spindle required, your expensive machine tool spindle can be used without wear.

    Operating at such high speeds helps to improve machining accuracy, enhance surface finish, significantly lengthen tool life, as well as reduce wear on the cutting tool since it will be running at the speeds intended.

    Its ceramic ball bearings and ultra-precise collet system enables ultra-thin wall cutting. The AA-grade Mega Micro Collet guarantees 1-micron runout at the collet nose, and the .004” collapsibility assures a near-perfect concentric clamping of a micro-tool shank.

    The RBX12 also minimizes thermal displacement in the Z-axis for top precision – constant at <.001mm while a standard machining center spindles have up to .012mm.

  • This new micro deep-hole drill from BIG KAISER’s Sphinx line provides a time-saving option for creating wire EDM starter holes, averaging 5X faster per hole according to testing. The addition of this drill to a shop’s toolbox replaces the demanding and time consuming process of plunge EDM to establish a starter hole. This is especially true when a plate requires many starter holes, where they can be prepared on a standard machining center to shorten process times with no need to exchange tools.

     

    With this drill, holes with a length/diameter ratio of up to 80xØ are possible in the range of Ø.25mm-1.50mm, in steps of .1mm for hole depths up to 20/40/60/80xØ. A centering/pilot hole of 2xØ is recommended to begin the process, with the deep-hole drill following with a peck-cycle until the hole is completed.

     

    The Sphinx micro deep-hole drill has a flute- and cutting-edge geometry adapted to this difficult application. Taking in to consideration wear and tear, the drill is constructed of the appropriate high-quality carbide and optimum abrasion-resistant coating for drilling starting holes in high-strength alloyed tool steels.

  • To make this new range possible with just one boring head, the engineers at BIG KAISER came up with a new, rigid, dynamic center-mounted boring bar/insert holder capable of maintaining consistent precision throughout its full ran

    Previously, center-mount boring bars were used to cover a max Ø2.125”, and an outboard insert holder clamped to the side of the head covered Ø3.150”-6.000”. This left a significant gap of over Ø1” that could not be covered, and an additional head from the 310 series was needed to fulfill the full bore range to Ø6”. As a result, this new kit saves users nearly $2,000 when compared to the previous generation kit.

    The tooling and carefully selected accessories come stored in a molded plastic carrying case with foam inlay to keep the components organized and protect the instruments when not in use.

    The EWN 2-50XL boring head features adjustments of Ø.0002”/div. Coolant through is standard with a max pressure of 300 PSI. When using the outboard insert holders – an included coolant nozzle inserts to the center of the head for direct coolant delivery to the cutting edge. The same outboard insert holders can simply be assembled in reverse to permit back boring.
