Mossini S.p.A. is the only Italian company in the presses field able to offer any solution for sheet metal forming: conventional eccentric presses, mechanical presses with Link Drive slow motion, SERVOpress, eccentric presses with programmable slow motion Desmodrive (exclusive patent Mossini), hydraulic presses, triple effect hydraulic presses, die spotting presses and multi-slide hydraulic presses.

Presses and lines for hot forming, forging and rolling of rings complete the production of Mossini.

The Mossini Servo Press is a machine with technical solutions that provide a complete range of presses within a single product. We are speaking about a mechanical press equipped with one or more torque AC motors, whose features are enhanced by modern control devices through refined software programming. The operator, based on his forming process, can select among the different operating modes the most suitable one and optimize it setting properly its parameters. The servo press can operate with the full stroke either in eccentric mode or in slow motion cycles, reproducing the most common ones or creating new ones. In addition, it is always possible to work with lower strokes (pendulum mode), to increase productivity. The stroke can take any value between a minimum and a maximum stated in the technical data; even in pendulum mode it is always possible to configure a cycle with slow motion during the working phase. Working cycle configuration is made through control panel, by man-machine interface using a very simple and intuitive procedure. The torque motors, that lead the movement, are connected directly to the press gearbox without the interposition of the traditional flywheel/clutch group, as to minimize the inertia of the system; on the other hand, on kinematics are connected brakes for safety functions which are sized, managed and controlled as per actual norms.

    Optimal energy management
The forming energy is supplied directly to the workpiece by torque motors, which need to be properly sized for torque, power, and speed, along with their frequency converters. Energy consumption during a press forming cycle is very irregular. For servo presses, additional energy is needed to drive the working cycle. This can result in high peaks of electric current drawn from the facility's network, leading to inefficient use and extra costs. To address this, an Energy Management solution is used. A power supply, appropriately sized, draws a current equal to the average consumption during the cycle. This energy is stored in flywheel motors and/or supercapacitors and delivered to the servomotors as needed. Inertial energy, generated when the press slide slows down, is also stored in these devices and used during the forming phase or slide acceleration, resulting in energy savings. Typically, the current drawn from the electrical network is about 10% of the peak used by the motors during the working cycle.

Maximum quality of the workpiece and maximum productivity
Another advantage of a servo press is that by programming the movement, it is possible to consider the slide of the press as an electric axe and coordinate it with other electric axes, of automation devices, and with other hydraulic axes that may be present on the press, as blank holders, ejectors, etc. In this way we can obtain the following goals: maximum quality of the workpiece and maximum productivity due to movements optimization and synchronism, and energy saving, as all these other elements may be integrated into Energy Management concept, where all the energy that would be dissipated in traditional plants, is stored and re-used during the production cycles.

  • It is a special mechanism that integrates the traditional rod-crank system for transmitting motion to the slide. The device consists mainly of molten steel levers, complete with special bronze bearings and hardened pins 39NiCrMo3.
    Its usage offers considerable advantages:

    • Optimization, in the design phase, of the work area and of the approaching and return speeds.
    • Low speed in the work area.
    • Reduction in the consumption of the tools.
    • Better use of any blank-holder cushions.
    • Reducing of the risk of wrinkling and tearing.
    • Reduced noise.

The range of presses fit to the use of this system includes double sided presses, with one, two or four connecting rods and forces from 100 to 3500 tons.
