  • In metal fabrication, the biggest gains often come from solving the biggest challenges—literally. Large-format parts have long been a bottleneck in bending, demanding multiple operators, slow handling, inconsistent part quality, and are extremely unsafe. But with Starmatik’s robotic automation, paired with Schröder’s advanced folding systems, that bottleneck is eliminated. The result is a fully automated solution for large, heavy, and geometrically challenging parts, the sort where traditional press brakes fall short. Folders have long been the ideal solution for large-format bending, and Starmatik builds on that advantage with automation that’s as straightforward as pick-and-place. Unlike press brakes, where the robot must stay engaged with the part throughout the entire bending process, folder-based automation allows the robot to simply load the flat blank onto the gauge table. From there, the AHS (Advanced Handling System) takes over, feeding and rotating the part through the entire bending sequence before returning it for robotic removal and stacking. The robot’s role is minimal: place the blank, wait, and retrieve the finished form. For large-format parts, nothing could be simpler, or more efficient. Because the robot doesn’t handle the part during the bending sequence, production speed is dictated by how fast the machine can fold, not by how slow the robot manipulates a large unwieldy part. The result is faster cycle times, simpler programming, and a significant boost in output. When paired with a dual-beam folder like the Schröder DuoBend, the capability expands even further. The unique dual folding beam design removes one of the final limitations in sheet forming: the inability to swing around mid-part forms. With Starmatik’s robotic precision and the DuoBend’s geometric freedom, complex large-format profiles that would be nearly impossible on a press brake can now be folded automatically, with no compromises in speed or quality. This isn’t an add-on, it’s a fully integrated cell where the robot and folder operate in unison to streamline programming, automate optimization, and deliver consistent, high-speed production of large parts once thought too large to automate. In a labor-constrained market where quality and throughput must rise without adding headcount, Starmatik gives fabricators a competitive edge, especially in the high-value, large-format segment where conventional bending systems fail. This isn’t just robotic bending; it’s a production strategy for manufacturers who want to scale up without slowing down.

  • Jorns of Lotzwil Switzerland, a recognized leader in long metal folding technology, has officially launched the JDB300, a heavy-duty long folding machine engineered for the most extreme forming environments. Designed to handle up to 11 gauge mild steel in 40’ lengths or longer, with uncompromising accuracy and control, the JDB300 combines brute force with intelligent engineering to meet the unique demands of long metal folding. Built on a rugged triple-plate C-frame structure, the JDB300 features a dual-cylinder drive system that delivers unmatched clamping and bending force, dynamically controlled at each C-frame for precision under any load. Its robust twin linkage system ensures accurate, repeatable bending over extended production cycles, while a dedicated retract isolation dock protects the guide mechanism from forming stress, preserving accuracy and preventing premature wear. Operators benefit from fully independent Dynamic Positioning (DP) control at each C-frame, programmable by position or pressure, enabling real-time compensation for part variations or material inconsistencies. Additional mechanical compensation built into the bending tool guarantees uniform angle consistency across long parts, even in thick materials. Together, these features form a machine that doesn’t just get by, it redefines what’s possible in long folding. To fully automate the JDB300 for maximum labor savings and throughput, the system can be seamlessly integrated with the Jorns JPM automated part manipulator. Engineered for long, heavy, and complex profiles, the JPM enables fully automated part loading, rotation, unloading, and stacking, regardless of part length. This pairing transforms the JDB300 into a fully automated bending cell, eliminating manual handling, increasing consistency, and providing true lights-out production for heavy-gauge long folding applications.

  • Metalforming LLC of Peachtree City Georgia is proud to introduce Stolarczyk’s advanced Coil Blanking Solution, marking the first public presentation of a technology that promises to reshape how fabricators manage material flow, cost, and floor space. Unlike traditional sheet-based supply, Stolarczyk’s modular coil blanking system delivers immediate savings by eliminating the processing markup embedded in every pallet of sheet. Coil stock offers a lower per-pound cost and, when combined with the system’s custom blanking capabilities, allows users to optimize nesting for laser and punch operations, reducing scrap and maximizing raw material usage. Beyond cost savings, the space-saving footprint of coil inventory helps manufacturers reclaim valuable floor space. A single coil replaces numerous stacked pallets, freeing up production zones and improving logistics. The system is engineered for agility. Custom cut-to-length capabilities enable just-in-time blanking to match shifting schedules and short runs, eliminating the delays and waste tied to fixed sheet sizes. Reduced handling also lowers the risk of damage and cuts labor costs, especially when processing sensitive, high-finish materials. “Stolarczyk’s coil solution isn’t just a blanking line, it’s a strategic shift in how fabricators manage inventory, improve throughput, and stay competitive,” said David Prokop of Metalforming, LLC. Attendees of FabTech are invited to visit booth A4549 for a live demonstration and to learn how switching to coil can unlock measurable improvements in cost, efficiency, and control.

  • In the world of sheet metal forming, every machine has its limits—until now. With the introduction of the Schröder DuoBend, Schröder has removed one of the most persistent constraints in folding technology: the inability to swing around mid-part forms such as corrugations, stiffening ribs, offsets, and hat-shapes. Traditional single-beam folders, no matter how advanced, are ultimately limited by part geometry. The DuoBend changes that equation completely. By engineering a system with two independently operating folding beams, one above and one below, the DuoBend eliminates the need to remove the part so the folding beam can swing to make a bend in the reverse direction. Complex forms that were once considered impractical, or even impossible, are now easily produced. Profiles that require multiple operators, special tooling, and awkward handling on a press brake are folded cleanly and precisely in a single, fluid motion. The DuoBend opens the door to folding geometries never before feasible on conventional folders, dramatically expanding the role of folding in modern fabrication. The DuoBend is available with several back gauge configurations to suit the type of part, level of automation, and workflow preferences. For operations requiring automation, it comes available with automatic tool change options, and can also be integrated with Schröder’s AHS (Advanced Handling System) for fully automated part positioning and rotation. For full lights-out operation, the DuoBend can be equipped with a Starmatik robotic handling system, creating a complete automated bending cell. With working lengths from 10’-7” to 13’-3”, in thicknesses up to 6 gauge, and tool heights up to 15-3/4”, the DuoBend sets a new standard for what’s possible in folding. For fabricators seeking to expand capability, improve handling, and move past the physical limits of traditional folding machines, the DuoBend is not just an upgrade—it’s a breakthrough.
