• Xiris Releases NIR Weld Camera System: Setting New Standards in Open Arc W (Jun 27, 2025)
  Burlington, ON, Canada, – Xiris Automation is pleased to announce the release of its NIR (Near Infrared) Weld Camera System with a remarkable 140+ dB High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging capability with advanced NIR illumination that can be synchronized to the camera. Tailored especially for open arc welding processes where a clear view of the arc and surrounding background is needed, the NIR Weld Camera System delivers crystal clear views of the welding electrode, weld arc, melt pool, and surrounding background.
  
  With its modular design of camera plus up to 3 remote LED light sources, the system can seamlessly integrate with any welding automation equipment, providing excellent image quality for process research, additive manufacturing, welding education and welding production applications without the use of dangerous to eye lasers.
  
  Using a NIR camera and NIR LED illumination together, the system generates stable, robust images of high contrast weld features that enables both manual remote monitoring as well as advanced Machine Vision analysis.  The LED illumination module can be mounted remotely from the camera, providing flexible optical setups. 
  
  Stable, high contrast images are key to making precise geometric measurements and defect detection of weld processes.  Combined with Xiris’ AI-powered machine vision package WeldStudio™, users can measure and track vital welding features, or detect defects in their process to meet the demands of even the most challenging fabrication standards in use today.
  
  The Near Infrared Camera System is an excellent choice for production welding equipment, suitable for integration into most types of weld automation systems, particularly for demanding GMAW and GTAW processes.

  The latest enhancement to the XIR 1800 introduces transformative cooling time analysis, delivering next-level precision for engineers and manufacturers in the metal additive and welding industries.
  
  Burlington, ON, Canada – Xiris Automation Inc., a leader in advanced welding and manufacturing monitoring solutions, is excited to announce the launch of the Cooling Time Tool, a groundbreaking feature integrated into the XIR 1800 thermal camera system.
  This innovative tool is designed to empower engineers and manufacturers by redefining process optimization and quality assurance in metal additive manufacturing and welding automation. The Cooling Time Tool uses thermal camera data to calculate cooling rates, reducing the need for traditional assumptions that could result in costly defects and material inconsistencies.
  Accurate measurement of cooling rates, such as t8/5 (from 800°C to 500°C in Carbon Steels) or t12/8 (from 1200°C to 800°C in Stainless Steels), is critical in both welding and additive manufacturing (AM). This tool provides instant insights into cooling dynamics, helping engineers optimize thermal management, reduce distortion, and enhance mechanical properties in both wire-based and powder-based additive manufacturing processes.
