  • Lévis, Québec, March 13, 2025Creaform, a business of AMETEK, Inc. and worldwide provider of automated and portable 3D measurement solutions, announced today the release of the new Sheet Metal Add-on as part of the recently released Creaform Metrology Suite. Designed to address industry specific needs, it tackles the many challenges of sheet metal inspection in the metalworking, automotive and aerospace industries. Providing measurements of sheet metal parts with never-before-seen accuracy and repeatability for 3D laser scanners, this software solution gives Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) professionals a higher confidence level in their 3D scan data, while empowering manufacturers to fully trust their inspection reports.

Previously a challenging endeavor, measuring thin sheet metal parts using 3D scanners used to be highly dependent on the users and the resolution settings. Now, however, the results generated by the new Sheet Metal Add-on are user independent. It quickly provides accurate and repeatable information on all sheet metal features, such as edges, holes, slots, rectangles, and trimmed edges. This specialized add-on provides the most flexible, complete, and simple measurement method, working in perfect synergy with the HandySCAN 3D|BLACK Series and all handheld MetraSCAN BLACK+ scanners.

It offers powerful new features and significant benefits, including:

    • Accuracy and repeatability: Powered by advanced image algorithms, the Sheet Metal Add-on enables accurate and repeatable measurements that are independent from operator skills.
    • Simplicity & flexibility: The measurement process is straightforward, requiring no additional hardware accessories and eliminating the need to navigate complex or overwhelming software parameters.
    • Speed: The measurement process of the new Sheet Metal Add-on is up to 5 times faster than CMM processes.
    • Intuitive interface: Includes a new visualization tool that allows users to validate that their data acquisition is ready for inspection before proceeding, saving time by removing unnecessary steps.
    • Value for money: It offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive and time-consuming CMM solutions, ensuring a quick return on investment.

“On top of the usual versatility, portability and efficiency that comes with all Creaform systems,” says Mathieu Desmarais, Product Manager at Creaform, “manufacturers can now improve their processes, produce sheet metal parts of better quality and ship them faster to the customers, at a fraction of the price of a traditional CMM”

  • Lévis, Québec, February 26, 2025Creaform, a business of AMETEK, Inc. and worldwide provider of automated and portable 3D measurement solutions, announced today the release of Scan-to-CAD Pro, a powerful new application module integrated within the Creaform Metrology Suite™. It has been specifically designed to streamline and enhance reverse engineering workflows with a more concise approach.

Initially launched in 2014, Creaform’s Scan-to-CAD software module is a popular 3D scan data processing software that creates a simple, easy-to-use bridge between the 3D scan acquisition and the CAD or rapid prototyping (3D printing) software. Now available in two versions, both the standard Scan-to-CAD module and the new Scan-to-CAD Pro module come ready with advanced algorithms to extract information from meshes, flexible alignment, optimized mesh editing tools, and powerful selection capabilities. While both powerful, this latest addition provides a new option for professionals to choose from, to ensure a perfect fit with their reverse engineering workflow.

With superior new features, including 2D sketching and 3D modeling tools, the new Scan-to-CAD Pro acts like a seamless gateway between 3D scanning and CAD software, such as SolidWorks. It speeds up the process of converting a 3D scan data to a mesh to a highly detailed CAD model, and in some cases even allows for the complete workflow to be done within this single software module. Scan-to-CAD Pro simplifies feature extraction and CAD modeling from 3D scan data, enabling manufacturers to save time and streamline product design processes for a perfect fit on the very first try. No more cumbersome design iterations, especially with complex geometries. Ultimately, Scan-to-CAD Pro, combined with the performance and versatility of Creaform’s 3D scanners, is a company’s go-to solution for eliminating the back-and-forth between 3D scanning and CAD software and accelerating its time to market.

“Before, users struggled to turn raw scan data to a usable CAD file,” explained David Robichaud, Product Manager at Creaform. “Now, Scan-to-CAD Pro offers the most intuitive reverse engineering toolkit for mechanical engineers and designers. Scan-to-CAD Pro democratizes reverse engineering processes for businesses and users who do not want to invest time and resources in advanced CAD software. It’s truly a market game changer.” Designed to get the most out of the Creaform scanners, the new Scan-to-CAD Pro application module provides a user experience that only Creaform can offer. “As 3D scanning pioneers with over 20 years of experience, an exceptional customer service and constant innovation,” explains Fanny Truchon, President of Creaform, “we have become a recognized powerhouse in reverse engineering and offer a complete 360° 3D solution second to none.”
