  • Bilsing Automation will showcase its new PSB-20 pneumatic grippers featuring a heat protection shield designed to withstand high temperature environments required for hot forming applications required to produce B-pillar, C-Pillar or Roof frames, for example. The PSB-20 can handle workpiece temperatures of up to 1000o C. They come with a self-locking feature that ensures higher production safety and capable of achieve a clamping force of 800 N.

    PSB-20 hot forming grippers are manufactured from high strength aluminum and can reach 40 SPM. They have a slim profile and flat design, helping to decrease collision risk. Available in a variety of sizes, these lightweight grippers can help to achieve increased stroke rates. They offer short opening and closing cycles for increased productivity. Styles are also offered with optional sensor versions to ensure correct part positioning

    This hot forming series is available in fixed jaw, block jaw, and L-versions --  all with either two clamping pins or thin versions with one clamping pin. Depending upon the configuration, both jaws can be dynamic. Various connection choices are also available including lateral ball, lateral pin, back ball connection or STS-tube connection in the back.

  • In booth #1307 at FABTECH 2019, Bilsing Automation will highlight its next generation ultra-high modulus pitch carbon fiber composite tooling featuring 15% stiffer fibers for increased strength and less deflection. Potential composite tooling applications include crossbar beams, loading and unloading beams, destacking beams, panel loading t-booms, and tooling supports for the body shop pressroom, injection molding and other applications.

    Bilsing carbon fiber tooling provides 3.5 times the stiffness of steel tooling at less than half the weight. It is also lighter and stiffer than aluminum, helping to significantly reduce vibration and deflection to settle more rapidly and provide higher precision, helping users achieve up to a 20% production improvement.

    Over its lifespan, carbon fiber tooling can provide a higher ROI when users consider they will get more parts out the door, reduce energy costs due to moving less tooling mass, and extend equipment life since the  lighter mass of carbon fiber puts less stress on automation, robots, presses, etc.

    Bilsing produces a series of round, square and conical composite tools as well as custom profiles for specific customer needs, which can be powder-coated to any color. Additionally, special dampening layers are added to many of the Bilsing applications making the tooling even faster and more precise.

  • In booth #A1307 at FABTECH 2019, Bilsing will display its enhanced carbon fiber T-boom tooling, which includes a 15% increase in carbon fiber (CF) stiffness as well as modifications to the profile for easier joining via the company’s special fastening technology. By improving the stiffness of the tool, there is less vibration and deflection for improved speed and precision.

    In independent laboratory tests comparing steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber at 1,000,000 cycles with approximately 350 lb. force of tension and compression loaded, Bilsing carbon fiber booms proved to be lighter and more robust than aluminum, yet stronger than steel booms of the same size.  By changing from metal booms to carbon fiber tooling, manufacturers can improve production rates by up to 20%.

    MODULAR:  Importantly, Bilsing T-Booms feature a modular design with extreme design flexibility, enabling users to simply change out components instead of having to replace the entire unit should a component break or need to be changed out.

    STRONG:  Bilsing’s fastening methodology for its T-booms marries the carbon fiber structure at the joints first with an adhesive and then reinforces it with steel bolts through the core.  This Bilsing-developed technology results in a joint that is as strong as a steel weld while lowering manufacturing costs. The new profiles are modified to further gain benefits from this process.
