Bull Tahr are one of the toughest, and most widely respected animals on the island. Because of the nature of where they live and their keen senses, the Tahr have earned this reputation. Getting into “Tahr country” isn’t the easiest task. Most often the journey starts with a rough boulder hopping 4×4 drive into the mountains, and a arduous hike to follow. But, don’t be mistaken a 4×4, and strong legs isn’t all it takes for someone to be successful on a Tahr hunt. These animals can hide extremely well and will alarm each other with a whistle like sound, signalling that there is danger. One of the most beautiful of the deer species. The fallow are elusive and can be very difficult to hunt. Finding a mature buck isn’t the hardest part of fallow deer hunting, creating an approach to get in range is. These deer have a keen sense of smell, incredible hearing, and are naturally on high alert. Fallow bucks are characterized by large palmated antlers those similar to moose paddles, giving unique characteristics to a buck. Generally, it takes a few years for a buck to mature enough to have palmation in his antlers, as they usually start out as a spike in their first year. As bucks mature they begin to battle for territory and females. When two mature males are in battle their antlers can create loud volume as they are slammed together. The bucks can fight for upto an hour clashing antlers, and testing the will of their opponent. Fallow deer are a vocal animal; females and young one’s bleat, males and females have an alarm bark when they feel threatened, and in the rut the male can be heard at a distance making their croak. The croak is a bull frog like noise, and the bucks will croak repeatedly to attract the attention of the females during the rut.  Fallow Buck is a must for any hunter.

White Stags are a real treat to see. The White Stag can at times be rare and will certainly be the talking point in any trophy room. The White Stag is a colour and is the same genus as Red Stag, though to have a pure white is certainly a treat for us all to see. Hunted on our very own exclusive private game estate and living with the red stags this deer is a desired trophy for any hunter. They are a magnificent animal to see appearing out of the early morning fog, if for a moment it can feel as a mystical animal appearing from the jungle. Though white in colour the White Stag can certainly camouflage incredibly well when hunters are in pursuit, so if the White Stag is a particular species you wish to get a hunt on, get in early, as only a select few available each hunt season. New Zealand is certainly famous for our world class red stag and should be closely followed by this magnificent white stag.
