Welcome To Westley Richards Gun & Rifle Makers Est. 1812

Recognized as one of the World's finest gun makers, in 1812 William Westley Richards founded the company that bears his name and continues to flourish today. In over 200 years of continuous gun making, Westley Richards & Co. has been credited with some of the greatest designs in firearm history. In all 115 patents were applied for, with many of these designs, such as the hand detachable lock action or droplock, still being used on our guns and rifles today. A testament to the ingenuity and timelessness of the guns and rifles produced by Westley Richards & Co.

  • Westley Richards .470 NE Droplock Double Rifle
Westley Richards .470 3 1/4" NE Double Rifle with Hand Detachable Locks...

  • Fresh to market is this Westley Richards .470 3 ¼” NE made completed in 20XX. The rifle is fine example of a modern interpretation of Westley’s classic Best Quality hammerless ejector double rifle with patent hand detachable locks.

All of Westley’s hallmark features, including the Model ‘C’ doll’s head rib extension and snap lever work, manual “beetle back” safety, and famous hand detachable locks or droplocks. The rifle is fitted with two triggers, disk set strikers, and has a strap over the stock’s comb. The trigger guard is rolled and has a long tang that extends to a trap grip cap. The nicely figured stock has a RH beaded cheekpiece and a 14 5/8” LOP over a leather covered recoil pad.

The chopper lump barrels are 23” and topped with Westley’s pattern quarter rib and combination foresight with rear-folding sight hood. The rear sight has 1 standing Express sight and 2 folding leaves (50, 75 yds) that are lined in gold.

The rifle is engraved in the same manner as all Best Quality rifles have been for over 100 years, with the traditional small house scroll and the Maker’s name in a flowing banner and a game scene cameo on the cover plate. Just as the big bore rifles of the pre-war era usually were engraved with an elephant, this .470 NE depicts a calm “hundred pounder” on the bottom, the engraving done by Marcus Hunt (signed M.A.H) who, in my opinion, is one of the finest game scene engravers in England, and he does elephants especially well! In addition, the rifle has Gold Name engraving (including s/n and “SAFE”), and a gold oval that can be engraved to the customer’s preferences. The rifle has the traditional color hardened finish with blacked cover plate, trigger bow, safety latch and lever work.

Finally, the rifle is complete in the original Maker’s lightweight leather case with basic accessories (e.g. spare foresight, (2) extra strikers, 2-pc ebony rod, J/M/B, & snap caps).

Only slightly used, the rifle shows a few minor marks on the butt stock and leather pad. The finish on the rifle is good, with some fading in the barrel black where the rifle was carried, presumably, over the shoulder. Overall, the rifle is in great shape and ready for its next hunt.

This is the quintessential Westley Richards Hammerless Ejector Double Rifle for Big and Dangerous Game and it is available for immediate delivery.

  • Westley Richards .425 NE Fixed Lock Double Rifle
Westley Richards .425 Rimless NE A&D Hammerless Double Ejector Rifle
    ...

  • Westley Richards .425 Rimless NE Hammerless Double Ejector Rifle completed 14th October 1924 for Goolamhusain Allibhoy & Sons, Bombay.
This is one of only 34 double rifles ever chambered by the firm in its famous .425 Magnum Express. The cartridge was described as “Especially adapted for sport in India where it takes the place of the prohibited .450 bore, and in Africa, wherever big game is to be met”.
Built on an A&D action with fixed locks, it includes Westley’s Snap Lever work, Model “C” Doll’s Head, “beetle” back non-auto safety, two triggers and disk set strikers.
In a period Westley Richards catalog, a  “Supplementary List of Guns, Rifles, etc. for Colonial and Export Trade”, this model was listed in the catalog as a “No. 507” and it is described as “well engraved and fine finished”.
Engraved on the left side of this rifle’s action body is a stalking tiger and a running Indian rhino on the right side, with the Maker’s name engraved below each game scene. Traditional scroll engraving supporting the game scenes and is also on the breech balls, cover plate, guard bow and tang.
The original 26” saddle lump barrels have original B’ham nitro proofs (425 EX CORDITE 65-410 MAX), are fitted with W.R. patented ejectors (5098/1906) with spring loaded détente for rimless cartridges, and Westley’s pattern rib and ramp front sight.
As prescribed in the factory ledgers, the rifle has a full pistol grip with hard rubber grip cap, and an India Hard Rubber butt plate checkered and embossed with the W.R.&Co. logo. Traditional sling eyes, and blank gold oval.
Complete in a lightweight canvas case with Maker's trade lable.
Rifle remains excellent as refinished by Westley Richards sometime in the 1980’s or 90’s. Action body recolored, barrel and furniture re-black, re-cut checkering and refinished stock. Bores are perfect, barrels are tight on face, and ejectors are timed and reliable.
Load data also available for the rifle.
An excellent example of a very rare Westley Richards & Co. double rifle a factory and the factory refurbishments the company was well known for in the latter part of the 20th century.
  • Westley Richards .318 Acc. Exp. Bolt Action
Westley Richards .318 Accelerated Express Lightweight Bolt Action...

  • Westley Richards .318 Accelerated Express Best Quality “Light Model” Magazine
Rifle completed in 1913. The pivotal 1912 catalog from WR listed a Lightweight .318
Magazine Rifle with 22” bbl, a 43” OAL and weight under 8 lbs., and said that made
the rifle “extremely handy for snap shots in hill shooting”. Built on a standard length
commercial Mauser ’98 action with a flag safety, steel round bolt-knob with a
checkered flat base and a lever-release floor plate, this rifle has all the features of a
WR Best Quality model of the era. The stock has a right hand beaded cheekpiece, full
pistol grip stock with trap, finely checkered hand and forend with Mullered borders,
horn forend tip, and a flat checkered steel trap butt. The 22” barrel has Metford rifling
(a standard feature on WR rifles of this era) and WR pattern island rear sight with 1
standing/4 folding spring loaded “platina” lined leaves sighted to 500 yds with a
combination bead and night foresight with Westley Richards Registered Protector,
and a barrel mounted sling eye. The receiver, bottom metal and sights are engraved in
an early rendition of the bold scroll that became the house pattern for WR magazine
rifles. In addition, the stock “panelled” (sic) as the catalogs of the era referred to the
option of raised panels shaped on the sides of some WR stocks. These panels are
    smooth with drop points.
This rifle was the originally priced at £25 in 1912.
This stock measures 14 1/2″ to the center and has adjustable aperture peep sight fitted
onto the wrist and the the nose of the comb is stepped to accommodate the sight when
it is laid down. The original silver stock oval retains what is probably the original owner’s coat of arms and is stamped with an armory rack number between the sling
    eye and stock oval.
