Hurco Product Feature: VC500i 5-Axis Cantilever Machining Center

INDIANAPOLIS – The VC500i (XYZ Travels: 20.5" x 17.7" x 15.8") is a 5-axis cantilever machining center that includes a 12,000 RPM spindle with a CAT40 spindle taper. The VC Series by Hurco was designed for customers to support a wide range of parts and allows machinists to use standard length tooling due to the B-axis configuration. The B-axis provides superb undercutting ability with a full 110° in both positive and negative directions. Solid one-piece cast iron frame optimized with both static and dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

The 5-axis VC Series B-axis trunnion style configuration also allows for shorter tools to be utilized when cutting smaller parts. When cutting smaller parts on a traditional A-axis trunnion, the tools approach the part from behind the A-axis trunnion. This means when running smaller 5-axis parts on larger machines, the operator is forced to use longer tools for clearance. Since a B-axis trunnion tilts around the Y-axis, the tool is always approaching the part from a safe direction and the possibility for interference is much less.

The Hurco VC500i is equipped with the Hurco control powered by WinMax® software and the patented motion system called UltiMotion® (www.hurco.com/ultimotion). The control helps machinists and job shops be more productive and profitable by supporting many programming methods: conversational programming; NC programming; and a Hurco-specific feature called NC/Conversational Merge that optimizes efficiency even further. Additionally, the Hurco control’s technical specifications lead the industry with 4GB RAM, 128GB Solid State Drive, and 10,000 block look ahead. Hurco Automation: Practical Job Shop Automation for High-Mix Manufacturing

INDIANAPOLIS – Hurco has developed a streamlined automation package for high-mix manufacturing by partnering with ProCobots to make job shop automation practical, which means the automation packages are flexible, easy to program, and easy to move to other Hurco machines without the need for customers to call an integrator each time they need to make a change.

Hurco is able to provide seamless integration of automation to Hurco CNC machines due to the development of the Automation Manager control feature. This intuitive control feature includes a setup wizard, job and queue progress bars, a graphical interface between the collaborative robot (cobot) and the CNC machine to facilitate an easy setup process for each job, the ability to run multiple jobs sequentially, and the ability to load and save job sets.

“Hurco knows the struggles shops have experienced with traditional automation, especially when it’s time for program changes or a machine transfer. That’s why we formed a partnership with ProCobots to create a completely integrated job shop automation system that is portable, reliable, easy to set up, easy to program, and affordable. The Automation Job Manager software feature on the Hurco control was created specifically for job shops and the machinists who find ways to bring order to the chaos of high-mix manufacturing,” said Maggie Smith, Marketing Manager for Hurco Companies, Inc.

The Practical Job Shop Automation products and technologies are backed by Hurco. Visit Hurco.com/Automation to learn more.

  • Sodick iGroove Wire EDMs

    High Accuracy, Minimal Wire Consumption.

With our new wire rotation technology, iGroove, Sodick’s ALN and ALP Wire EDM Series’ maximize cutting performance and part accuracy while minimizing wire consumption. Combining our rigid linear motors, our most advanced generator, and a more responsive, user-optimized control, the iGroove Series provides the finest finishes possible.

With the ALN’s 2D Automatic Programming Support function, Heart NC, you can create machining and mold shapes easier than ever. There are options for involute gears, coreless shapes, and free-form curves to make sure your product is designed exactly as you intended. With IntelligentQ3vic, 3D solid models can be imported directly, allowing the operator to establish a consistent and highly efficient manufacturing flow by automatically extracting machining contours from a solid model. With these functions, the ALN iGroove is ideal for mold making and other high accuracy parts.

Since the release of the iGroove series in Q4 of 2021 initial results have shown increases in accuracy, surface finish and wire savings of up to 39%. It has been found that this machine lineup is especially suited for thick workpieces (60mm or greater). Workpieces with varying thicknesses as well as workpieces that require multiple passes benefit from this technology the most. However, improvements are seen on less complex workpieces when compared to previous models.
