Based in Elgin, Ill., FMA is a professional organization with more than 2,500 individual and company members from across North America and 20 other countries working together to improve the metal processing, forming and fabricating industry. Founded in 1970, FMA brings fabricators, metal producers, equipment manufacturers, and service providers together through educational programs, networking events, volunteer opportunities, and FABTECH. FMA has a technology affiliate, the Tube & Pipe Association, International (TPA), which focuses on the unique needs of companies engaged in tube and pipe producing and fabricating.

The official publications of FMA include - The FABRICATOR®, The Tube & Pipe Journal®, STAMPING Journal®, Practical Welding Today®, The Fabricator® en Espanol, Canadian Metalworking, and Canadian Fabricating & Welding.

FMA’s charitable foundation, Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs® (NBT), provides grants to community and technical colleges to produce manufacturing summer camps for youth ages 12-16 to introduce them to manufacturing career options. The foundation provides scholarships for qualified students in post-secondary educational programs leading to careers in manufacturing as well.

FMA is also the founder of Manufacturing DaySM, a national movement dedicated to addressing common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what modern manufacturing is. Although this celebration officially occurs the first Friday in October, any day can be MFG Day.

    • The FMA assessment-based Machine Tool Technician certificate program builds awareness and attracts new workers for the machine installation start up and repair technician field.  During this 2-day in-person class, attendees will gain knowledge on baseline skill sets for this field.     This workshop provides a basic introduction to safety and welding processes. Held at the FMA Metal Fabrication Lab on Harper College's Palatine, Ill. campus attendees will be able to practice their skills on advanced equipment....

    • Do you have some welding experience, but haven't had the chance to learn more? This is the training for you! In this day-long workshop, you'll learn and practice skills across the different types of welding.

    Harper College instructors and technical experts will guide you through the basic concepts and show how they apply on advanced equipment in the FMA Metal Fabrication Lab.

    Classes are being offered on Friday, Oct. 20 and Dec. 8 in Palatine, Ill.
