FEIN launches cordless angle grinders and die grinders

    • EC motor with dust protection for long tool life
    • Infinitely variable electronic speed preselection
    • Safe and ergonomic performance

Pittsburgh, PA, September, 2018. FEIN is launching two new cordless angle grinders and three cordless die grinders, which can be used wherever customers require mobility with high performance. The ergonomic FEIN cordless angle/die grinders are designed for efficient cutting, grinding, and deburring work in assembly jobs. Both the cordless angle grinders and the cordless die grinders have a new, dust-resistant and brushless FEIN PowerDrive motor, with an innovative technology concept.

Cordless angle/die grinders from FEIN: mobile and powerful

The new FEIN cordless angle/die grinders are designed for professionals needing to carry out tough cutting, grinding, and deburring work when on the job. They can be used for steel construction, cutting steel frames, mounting stairway and balcony railings, or for general grinding of weld seams in tight spaces. At the same time, the cordless angle grinders are an important tool for firms specializing in exterior work, based on their need for a cordless system to cut many materials during on-site assembly work.  FEIN has designed the new cordless angle grinders for metalwork, but the grinders’ powerful motors with dust protection makes them suitable for many different applications.

Designed for many needs, FEIN offers two cordless angle grinders available in two variants: the FEIN cordless angle grinder CCG 18-115 BL/18-125 BL in the classic slide switch variant and the CCG 18-115 BLPD/18-125 BLPD with a switch that cannot be permanently locked (paddle switch). All models are fitted with an infinitely variable speed control, with rpms between 2500 and 8500, allowing for the ideal speed to be set for many grinding materials (ex. Stainless steel).

FEIN PowerDrive motor for long tool life

The FEIN cordless angle grinders have a newly developed brushless, and totally encapsulated FEIN PowerDrive next generation motor. This motor is protected from dirt, aggressive ceramic, and mineral dusts. This protection allows the FEIN cordless angle grinders to be operated continuously in environments with very high dust levels, without the need for maintenance. The FEIN PowerDrive motor delivers 30 percent greater efficiency than comparable universal motors with a rated output of 1100 W that produces optimum results when working in metal. The motor and electronics also have overload protection for added safety and efficiency.

    Safe and ergonomic working

User safety is of great importance in the new FEIN cordless angle grinders. All models feature a soft start to ensure that the tool powers up smoothly and safely. All models have restart protection to prevent the tool being switched back on unintentionally. The rapid stop function stops the rotation of the disc in a matter of seconds when the tool is turned off. The narrow grip at the back handle makes the tool very comfortable to hold.

FEIN HighPower storage batteries for good sanding capacity
The cordless angle grinders are equipped with FEIN 18 V HighPower lithium-ion batteries capable of handling current levels 75 percent higher than 18 V lithium-ion batteries. This allows the user to grind and cut steel, as well as remove thicker welded seams with ease. FEIN's SafetyCell technology protects the battery and tool from overload, overheating, and total discharge.

FEIN cordless die grinders: easy to use even in hard-to-reach places. November, 2018 is also launching three cordless die grinders from FEIN, each offering different functions suited for different applications. The FEIN AGSZ 18-280 BL is perfect for work in hard-to-reach places due to its long neck, and the FEIN AGSZ 18-280 LBL is particularly well suited to work where the tool needs to reach deep inside a pipe. AGSZ 18-90 LBL die grinder, with its low speed range of 2900 to 9000 rpm, is especially suited for stainless steel applications. Just like the cordless angle grinders, the cordless die grinders also feature a brushless FEIN PowerDrive motor. Given its closed housing, the motor is protected from dust and has an infinitely variable electronic speed control, allowing professionals to adapt the speed to their work.

Both the new cordless angle grinders and the cordless die grinders have a MultiVolt interface, making them compatible with the lithium-ion batteries of other FEIN 12–18 V power tools.

Light, compact and powerful: the NEW FEIN Cordless Rotary Hammer Drill (ABH 18)

    • Cordless drilling in concrete up to 7/8 in (20 mm)

    • Combination hammer: hammer drilling, drilling and chiselling with just one tool

    • Compact, ergonomic design and incredibly light at just 6.6 lbs (3 kg)

    • Long battery life thanks to brushless motor

    • Two forms of safety switch-off to protect the user and tool

    • Drilling dust nozzle for minimal dust

Pittsburgh, PA, November, 2018. FEIN US is adding the ABH 18 18 V cordless rotary hammer drill to its range of cordless power tools. The new FEIN ABH 18 is suited for drilling holes of up to 7/8 in (20 mm) in concrete and achieves optimum drilling performance for diameters between 5/16 – ½ in (8 and 12 mm). As a combination solution, users can also use the rotary hammer drill for drilling and chiselling.

Fein’s cordless rotary hammer drill was developed for the commercial and manual trade professional who demands outstanding performance when drilling into concrete or masonry. Fein’s cordless rotary hammer drill is designed to achieve the same performance as a corded machine in a commercial environment, where there is no power or limited power.

In order to develop a tool that perfectly met the requirements of the construction pro, the experts at FEIN talked to professional tradesmen from the industry, and incorporated what they learned into the development of the new FEIN cordless rotary hammer drill. The main application for the cordless rotary hammer drill is drilling in concrete or masonry, where holes between 5/16 – ½ in (8 and 12 mm) are needed. The new FEIN cordless rotary hammer drill, with brushless motor, is specifically designed for these very sizes. The extremely compact shape, low weight (just 6.6 lbs (3kg)), and low vibration of the hammer drill ensures fatigue-free work. These factors combined makes the ABH 18 hammer drill an ideal choice for all day tasks under a variety of working conditions.

    Combination tool with three functions
The 18 V cordless rotary hammer drill is also a flexible tool as it has three operating modes: hammer drilling, drilling, and chiselling. Its impact energy of 2 J gives users rapid drilling performance. This enables it to drill holes of up to ½ in (20 mm), allowing beams and supports to be secured to buildings with efficiency. The chisel function allows tiles to be removed without any fuss. The high impact energy means that the hammer drill can also be used to remove excess concrete, and thereby attain precise results in the construction of doors and gates. When being used for drilling work, the hammer drill helps professionals in the installation of drop anchors – core bits can be used to produce anchor holes up to 2-11/16 in (68 mm) diameter in masonry or concrete.

    Brushless motor extends battery life
The cordless rotary hammer drill from FEIN has a powerful, brushless motor, that requires no maintenance. The motor housing is reinforced with glass fibres, making it even more durable, robust, and therefore perfect for daily use in industrial and manual trades. Since the motor is 30 percent more efficient than conventional DC motors, it consumes less energy: one 5 Ah charge of the 18 V lithium-ion battery allows 80 holes with a diameter of 3/8 in (10 mm) and a depth of 3 in (75 mm) to be drilled.

Two forms of safety switch-off to protect the user and tool
With the new ABH 18 hammer drill, FEIN is protecting both user and tool. If the drill bit should stop suddenly, a mechanical torque decouples the motor and protects the user from kick-backs. The FEIN ABH 18 hammer drill battery and tool have electronic SafetyCell Technology, which protects the hammer drill from overloading, overheating, and total discharge. If any of these instances should occur, the hammer drill will shut down in a fraction of a second.

Drilling dust nozzle reduces amount of dust produced

To protect the user and reduce the amount of cleaning work needed, FEIN has provided a drilling dust nozzle as an optional accessory. The extractor’s air flow secures the nozzle to virtually any surface, leaving the user with both hands free. The drilling dust nozzle is compatible with all 1-3/8 in (35 mm) suction hose connections on wet and dry dust extractors.  This new machine will be available early 2019.

As with all FEIN products, users can register their new cordless rotary hammer drill for the 3-year FEIN PLUS warranty.

  • PRESS RELEASE

For the largest magnetic base drilling diameters: the NEW Slugger by FEIN JMU 404 M

FEIN’s most powerful magnetic base drill for tapping up to 1-1/4 in (M36)

    • High torque for heavy-duty drilling work due to FEIN 1,700 W high-power motor and mechanical 4-speed gearbox
    • Universal use due to forward/reverse running, MT4 tool mounting and speed reduction
    • Use of long drill tools thanks to stroke range of 15-3/4 in (400 mm) – the largest stroke available on the market
    • Magnetic holding force of 5,170 lbf (23,000 N) and additional torque support, torque slipping clutch and tilt sensor

Pittsburgh, PA, November, 2018. FEIN introduces its new, universal JMU 404 M magnetic base drill. The powerful 4-speed magnetic base drill with forward/reverse, Weldon 1-1/4, Weldon 32 and arbor adaptor, for smaller size cutter, the new JMU 404 can drill diameters up to 4-11/32 in (110 mm) with cutting depths of up to 4 in (100 mm).

The new, robust FEIN JMU 404 M magnetic base drill can drill diameters measuring an impressive 4-11/32 in (110 mm) with cutting depths of up to 4 in (100 mm). They assist users in performing heavy-duty drilling work as well as with large-scale welding applications in e.g. special machine engineering or steel foundation construction.

The drill is extremely powerful, is easy to use and can drill holes up to 4-11/32 in (110 mm) diameter. The new tool completes the FEIN range of high-quality magnetic base drills for hole diameters of ½ in – 4-11/32 in (12 to 110 mm).

With four speeds, the JMU 404 M can be used for all drilling work: for mag base drilling, twist drilling and hole tapping as well as countersinking and reaming. In the case of countersinking and reaming, speed reduction is essential – because the tool assists the user: With the slowest speed setting, the drill uses the electronic speed reduction function to slow the drill bit to 60 revolutions per minute.

Plenty of power and a huge stroke
At the heart of the FEIN JMU 404 M is the 1,700 W high-power motor that provides the tool’s impressive torque. The maximum force on the drill spindle is 2213 lbf in (250 Nm). The MT4 mounting enables standard MT tools to be used. FEIN has responded to these demands and has equipped the tool with a stroke range of 15-3/4 in (400 mm), which is the largest currently available on the market. To ensure that metalworkers can continue to use their existing cutters with the FEIN QuickIN or 3/4” Weldon fitting, FEIN has developed appropriate adapters.

Due to the mechanical 4-speed gearbox, users can adapt the tool speed to the respective drilling task and even cut threads up to 1-1/4 in (M36). Metalworkers working on enormous constructions sometimes need to cut correspondingly large threads up to 1-1/4 in (M36). Not all of these threads can be formed on stationary machines. Afterwards, many components are additionally powder-coated. Threads that have already been cut then have to be recut and this is a challenge, especially in the case of thread sizes up to 1-1/4 in (M36) – only very few manufacturers produce tools that can do this. FEIN is now one of them.”

High magnetic holding forces ensure reliable stability
High magnetic holding forces and a huge stroke require the tool to have an even greater magnetic holding force – this is intended to ensure the safety of the user and protect the tool. This is achieved using a magnet with a holding force of 5,171 lbf (23,000 N). In addition, the tool has an integrated torque support that shifts the tipping point of the tool further towards the rear. Use of the torque support corresponds to an extra holding force of around 225 lbf (1,000 N) in addition to the magnetic holding force of 5,171 lbf  (23,000 N). A convenient magnetic holding force display tells the user when the tool is reliably secured by the magnet: A permanent green light indicates full holding force. The tool is attached securely to the workpiece; if the holding force is impaired, the light begins to flash. If the tool tilts or slips, a tilt sensor stops the tool within seconds – another feature which in this form is only available from FEIN.

To protect the machine and tool, developers at FEIN have also integrated a torque slipping clutch which intervenes whenever the used tool blocks. The slipping clutch achieves this by disconnecting the drive side from the output side in the event of overload. The motor cable of the FEIN JMU 404 M is also protected using a special swivel-mounted protective hose. As a result, the cable is able to move with the user while he/she is using the tool, irrespective of whether the drill motor is moving in a downward or upward direction. This reduces the risk of the user inadvertently catching the tool on the workpiece and the tool being damaged.

Made for tough use in industry and manual trades
Like all other magnetic base drills from FEIN, the robust JMU 404 M magnetic base drill with a total weight of 86 lbs (39 kg) has an extremely durable design that has good resistance to torsion. Additional reinforcement sits on the metal gearbox housing minimize vibrations and maximize smooth running of the cutter. The controls are arranged centrally, are self-explanatory and are therefore extremely easy to operate. As with all FEIN products, users can also register the FEIN JMU 404 M for the 3-year FEIN PLUS warranty.  This new machine will be available early 2019.

FEIN range of magnetic base drills in five performance classes

The demands that end users place on functionality, price and performance are sometimes just as varied as the applications that they have to cope with in their day-to-day work. FEIN has responded to this by offering a total of five different performance classes: Mobile, Endurance, Compact, Universal and Automatic.

The Mobile performance class includes the JMU series with magnetic base drills for flexible and hand-guided drilling. The Enduring class offers magnetic base drills which provide basic functionality for drilling. The product range also includes magnetic base drills of the Compact class; these tools are optimized with respect to their size so that metalworkers can even use them in the girder web of a steel girder. Magnetic base drills of the Automatic performance class have a fully automatic drill feed to ensure efficient working. The Slugger by FEIN JMU 404 M, which is to be available from January 2019, belongs to the Universal class which, due to its broad range of functions, can be used for a wide variety of applications and achieves hole diameters of up to 4-11/32 (110 mm). There are two things that all tools in all performance classes have in common: outstanding quality and robust design, both of which are essential for the tough day-to-day work of a metalworker.
