Nidec started as a machine tool company, and approaches Additive Manufacturing from a part making perspective. Having both additive and subtractive experience allows Nidec to provide advanced technology such as: Local Shield for 3D printing of titanium and AI monitoring with real time in-process laser power control. Materials include aluminum, Inconel, Maraging steel, Co-Cr-W alloy, and Invar. The unique compact design of the Lamda nozzle delivers two different materials in separate or gradient application. The use of AI provides 100% monitoring of the melt pool throughtout the entire build cycle for quality control. The closed loop feedback provided by the monitoring system controls the laser power to fully optimize the melt pool. With the long history of building large machine tools, Nidec Lamda systems are able to manufacture titanium parts (in an open atmosphere without a vacuum chamber) of nearly any size - so far, 2,000 X 1,500 X 1,500 mm machines have been been delivered, and larger machines are well within the company's experience.
