Additive Monitoring Systems (AMS) is an organization dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art in Additive Manufacturing (AM). AMS is focused on reducing the costs and improving the quality of AM through the integration of in situ monitoring which provides instantaneous part certification and actionable part-cancellation data to builders. This function addresses the primary hindrances preventing even wider industry adoption: part reliability and certification. AMS is accomplishing these goals by the commercialization of a specialized software and hardware platform, called Project Fringe, which is the only product in the AM in situ monitoring space that can locate layer-wise defects by making absolute, part-centric measurements. By using an in-process operation model, Project Fringe can quickly assess part health and detect localized defects by measuring powder layer thickness, to instantly cancel compromised builds earlier, reducing lead time, post-processing, and scrap costs for users of MAM. Project Fringe operates in a non-contact mode, and is able to easily retrofit any commercial printer, without impacting warranty.
