 Press Releases

  • The ArcWorld® RS and ArcWorld HS pre-engineered robotic arc welding workcells deliver a highly flexible, compact and cost-effective option for integrating robotics into current weld processes. Ideal for replacing or supplementing manual welding, such as pre-assembly before welding in larger robotic workcells, each solution is designed for optimizing small- to medium-size part production for medium volume fabrication.

Requiring only 2.3 square meters (25 sq ft) of floorspace, the ArcWorld RS utilizes a rotating station (RS) design, manually indexed by the operator, featuring two fixture tables with a 100 kg payload capacity per side. This facilitates quick changeover, allowing parts to be safely loaded and unloaded while the opposite station part is welded. Parts up to 425 x 700 x 990 mm can be processed.

More compact, the ArcWorld HS needs only 1.4 square meters (15 sq ft) of floorspace and offers a hinged station (HS) design, allowing easy access for loading and unloading of parts. The workcell features a single fixture table with a 100 kg payload capacity and can process parts up to 550 x 500 x 1,050 mm in size. This cell is ideal for R&D and educational use as well as smaller production runs.

Each ArcWorld features a single high-speed, six-axis AR900 arc welding robot with YRC1000 controller. An intuitive digital weld interface for all power source brands is included. An integrated weld package includes either a Miller® Auto-Continuum™ 350 or Lincoln Electric Power Wave® R450 power source, wire feeder, wire spool holder and a variety of available torch options. Processes from the power supply are accessed by Yaskawa’s easy-to-use digital Universal Weldcom Interface (UWI), giving full control of welding parameters and settings from the robot programming pendant.

Each solution offers overhead LED lighting and is enclosed with sheet metal and light-reducing polycarbonate for arc and spatter protection. A built-in extraction hood for fume filtration and four-button operator panel with E-stop also come as standard.

The ArcWorld RS and ArcWorld HS are safeguarded and have a completed risk assessment compliant with ANSI/RIA R15.06-2012, and other relevant ISO and CSA standards. The robot controller’s Functional Safety Unit (FSU) uses “stand still” monitoring for the robot and safety signals. All workcell doors are safety monitored.

Each workstation, including the robot and safety fencing, come attached on a common base with integrated cable management for easy shipping and installation. Easy-open, safety-interlocked side panels allow for easier robot programming and equipment access.

Additional optional features are available, including a light beacon (3 color), Digital TouchSense, gas flow rate meter (CWT) gas flow sensor (SMC) and a torch cleaning station (with or without wire cutter).

  • The versatile, extended reach GP8L robot offers extremely fast performance in a compact footprint, maximizing floorspace utilization for greater production efficiency. Ideal for logistics processes, this six-axis robot is well-suited for high-speed bin picking, induction and packaging tasks. Applications for assembly, dispensing, material handling and machine tending are also expertly supported.

The long reach, slim-body design provides a broad working envelope and the ability to delve deeply into tight workspaces, and a wide wrist motion range eliminates interference. This, combined with exceptionally fast axis speeds and acceleration capabilities, improves application flexibility for a wide variety of industrial tasks.

Highly reliable, the space-efficient GP8L allows for minimum installation space, greatly reducing interference with peripheral devices. This enables the six-axis robot to be placed in close proximity to workpieces and other robots to create flexible, high-density layouts. Mounting for peripheral equipment is provided in multiple locations for easy integration.

Installation is quick and efficient. A single cable connects the manipulator to the controller, resulting in easy setup and reduced expenses for maintenance and spare parts inventory. Cables and air lines are routed through the robot base to upper arm to increase cable life, enhance safety and reduce teaching time. A cable installation tube facilitates fieldbus routing through the S-axis.

The GP8L features an IP54 body and offers an 8 kg payload capacity, 1,636 mm horizontal reach and 2,894 mm vertical reach. It can be floor-, wall-, tilt- or ceiling-mounted. Brakes are included on all axes.

GP-series robots are controlled by the high-performance YRC1000 controller that is built to a global standard and does not require a transformer for input voltages ranging from 380VAC to 480VAC. With a highly compact cabinet (598 W x 490 H x 427 D mm), the YRC1000 uses a lightweight standard teach pendant with intuitive programming. The Smart Pendant is available as an option.

  • Yaskawa America Inc., Motoman Robotics Division (Yaskawa Motoman), a leading North American robotics manufacturer, is pleased to announce that it will soon be breaking ground on an expansion to its headquarters in Miamisburg, Ohio. The 185,000 square foot state-of-the-art addition will nearly double the size of the company’s current production space, optimizing its operational capacity to meet the growing demand of the automation industry.

With over 400 current employees at this location, the expansion will create 70 new jobs. The additional manufacturing space will be utilized to engineer, develop, integrate and build robotic systems, as well as providing additional space for the retrofit and rebuild of previously deployed systems.

“When we built our current 305,000 square foot headquarters and manufacturing facility in 2011, we purchased additional land to support our expectation of continued growth. This expansion is the fulfilment of that vision and is the next step in Yaskawa’s growth plan for the Americas,” stated Steve Barhorst, President and COO of Yaskawa Motoman. “With labor shortages in the Americas, more companies are turning to automation to meet increased production demands and improve efficiencies. This addition will increase our capacity to support our continued record-breaking growth and enable us to reduce lead times and continue to deliver high quality, innovative robotic solutions to our valued customers and partners.”

Grants from the City of Miamisburg, Montgomery County, and Jobs Ohio are helping to offset building costs. “We are grateful for these funds that will help us continue to be a catalyst for economic growth in the City of Miamisburg and the Greater Dayton Region,” added Barhorst. “It is important for us to give back to this community that has supported Yaskawa Motoman since our inception.”

Likewise, the City of Miamisburg is excited about the positive economic and social impact this expansion will bring. “Yaskawa Motoman has been a great addition to Miamisburg's business community for the past 11 years. We are thrilled to see them grow and invest in our great city,” stated Michelle Collins, Mayor of Miamisburg, Ohio. “I'd like to extend my congratulations on their continued success and a thank you to their leadership team for choosing Miamisburg."

Yaskawa Motoman plans to begin the construction process in June 2023. Construction is expected to take approximately twelve (12) months, with a projected completion date of June 2024.
