WEIMA manufactures shredders and briquette presses for the metal industry. Reducing the volume of metal scrap by can decrease transportation and storage costs, increase the ability to reclaim expensive coolants or cutting fluids, and make it easier to resell metal scrap to recyclers. We want you to benefit from our decades of experience!
With WEIMA metal shredders, it’s possible to shred all kinds of light metals including aluminum, magnesium, copper and brass.  WEIMA's industrial scrap metal shredders can shred metal items such as cans, LED bulbs, electronics, metal scraps and steel chips.
Once the metals have been processed, compressing them into briquettes can reduce input material volume by up to 90%! Transportation is much more efficient with the reduced volume and the metal recyclers like the dense, fluid-free briquettes for smelting. The briquetting process also offers the opportunity to reclaim expensive coolant, residual oils and emulsions allowing reintroduction into the production cooling and lubrication circuit.
The WEIMA C.200 chip press is revolutionizing how machine tool businesses handle their turnings, swarf, and birds nests. From collecting and compressing to draining and fluid reclaim, this machine does it all in a single step. This machine has garnered quite a lot of interest from industry professionals that want to maximize the money they spend on cutting fluid and the time they spend moving this scrap around their plants.

  • The Game Changer for metal swarf treatment and disposal

During milling, turning, drilling or sawing metal and plastics, inevitably large quantities of residuals are produced in the form of chips. These are generally not treated further – and usually are dripping with emulsion, oil or coolant when sold. Handling is correspondingly time-consuming and disposal is expensive. With the newly developed WEIMA C.200 chip press, the drainage and compaction of loose chips is possible in just one automated work step. Liquids can be recovered in the process. Best of all: The compact machine can be placed directly at the chip conveyor next to the machining center.

    A well-known problem

Every metalworking company knows the sight all too well: tipping containers that are notoriously overflowing with voluminous chip balls and that need to be emptied manually on a regular basis. This situation should be avoided in the case of low-staffed to fully automated multi-shift operation of a CNC machining center, especially during the night or even over the weekend.

In order to achieve the highest process reliability, WEIMA offers a robust all-round carefree package with proven technology in the form of the C.200 chip press. Like all WEIMA compaction machines, it also uses hydraulic pressure for the pressing process. Thanks to a low-maintenance press stamp, no screw conveyor or separate pre-compression is required. The major disadvantages of augers include their high susceptibility to impurities and increased wear. Foreign objects and extra-long or ball-like chips are simply pressed together with the WEIMA press. Without damaging the machine. Without bridging. Without wrapping.

2 in 1: Low-maintenance drainage and compaction that saves money

Many cubic meters of chips are turned into easy to handle pellets with a diameter of 200 mm and low residual moisture. How is that possible? Because during the compaction process, the liquids adhering to the chips are pressed out. Lubricant or coolant enters a collecting tray via sieve holes. From there, it can be pumped out and, if necessary, returned to the recycling circuit. This saves costs in two ways: Fewer new coolants need to be procured. And the disposal costs of the chips are significantly lower due to the reduced weight.

Universal application thanks to plug-and-play installation

The C.200 press can be easily placed under any common chip conveyor discharge from a turning, milling, drilling or sawing center. The machine feet on rollers are height-adjustable. The generous hopper offers plenty of room for picking up large chip quantities and also acts as a material buffer. Once in the pressing chamber, the chips are pressed and drained using a horizontally movable pressing cylinder together with a press stamp. The hydraulic unit works with a 4 kW unit in the pressure range up to 200 bar. The Siemens PLC control system can flexibly adjust the press cycles dependent on time. A simple signal connects the press and processing machine. Pressing occurs only when the chip conveyor is also in operation. To minimize downtime, accurate diagnostic messages are displayed for troubleshooting.

    Worry-free automatic operation

The press can be used automatically by means of precise fill level sensors in the feed hopper. The machine switches on automatically when a certain fill level is reached in the hopper. In order to prevent wear on machine components, the machine also automatically switches to stand-by as soon as the fill level falls below a certain level.

Press for metal AND plastic chips

Due to its solid mechanical structure with a minimum of moving parts, the WEIMA C.200 can be used not only for chips made of aluminum, steel, copper, etc., but also for many types of plastic. One application example is the draining and pressing of fines from the washing system.

In the course of post-consumer plastic recycling, material streams are cleaned after crushing before being processed further (e.g., extrusion). Due to the process, plastic particles that are no longer usable accrue and have be drained before disposal due to their high weight.

Twice as good – for greater flexibility

In the duo version, the two self-sufficient press stamps of the C.200 Duo can be filled one after the other with the aid of a movable partition plate in the hopper. To reduce downtimes, both compression chambers can be used alternately. In the event of a malfunction, the machine automatically switches to the available pressing channel.

  • Are you getting the real value for your scrap? How do you know that your scrap recycler is paying you for what they are hauling away? Tired of spending money each month to replace coolant that leaves with your swarf? Too many machine shops are losing money right out their back door. Metal briquetting with WEIMA can help you with all these problems and more.

As manufacturers are pushed harder every year to reduce piece costs, companies need to look at every aspect of their manufacturing process to recover any money. One way to do this is by briquetting your scrap material before having it picked up by a recycling company. WEIMA briquette presses work to reduce the volume of your scrap material by increasing its density. This allows end users to fit more material in a single hopper which reduces haul charges.

The many benefits of metal briquetting

A briquette is more valuable to the scrap metals market than loose metal scrap. By increasing the density of the briquette, several things occur. Residual moisture, or coolant carry-out, is reclaimed and can be reused in the manufacturing process. This reclamation can be up to 95 percent of the residual moisture in the swarf. The briquetted material can be sold for a higher price per pound, as it requires less energy to re-melt. For this reason, the conversion rate is increased drastically. WEIMA end users have seen as much as a $0.40 per pound increase in their scrap value for aluminum chips when briquetted versus loose chips. It also provides the end user with a better idea of scrap weight since all contaminants have been removed prior to going to the recycler.

    Automated for round-the-clock reclaim

The WEIMA TH800M briquette press uses a PLC-controlled hydraulic system and motors to provide excellent briquetting and production capabilities.

Utilizing a 250 bar (3,600 psi) hydraulic pump, which develops over 120 tons of briquetting force, the TH800M can briquette the toughest materials including aluminum, steel, stainless and various other metal swarf. The TH800M is rated for production rates of up to 3,000 pounds per hour depending on material type. What results at the end of the process is a well-formed metal briquette with a diameter of 80 mm. The cutting fluid or coolant that is pressed out of the briquette drains into the pan below, making fluid recovery a breeze. The TH800M is designed to operate in the typical 24/7/365 shop environment of today’s manufacturers and is the larger of the two models in this line.

For operations with lower throughput needs, WEIMA also offers a smaller version of this briquette press called the TH600M. Either machine can be loaded and can run unattended, making it possible for manufacturers to keep doing what they do best: manufacturing important products.
