Join the Conversation with Technology Experts
The Technical Program consists of much more than traditional oral presentations. Explore all the interactive forum discussion groups offered throughout the program for valuable personal interactions with experts discussing vacuum coating topics important to you.
Industry Forum | Meet the Experts Corner | Technology Forum Breakfast
Wednesday, May 11 1:10 - 2:10 p.m.
Forum Organizer: Carl Lampert, Star Science
Panel Members: Vivek Subramanian, University of California, Berkeley, CA; and John Murray, Concept Laser Inc., Grapevine, TX
The Industry Forum will bring industry and technology leaders together to provide their view of the future of high performance coatings and the challenges that will affect the vacuum coating industry, and provide a view of their vision covering various markets, coatings and new materials, future growth and challenges. Their presentations will be followed by an open discussion between the participants and the Forum panelists.
Meet the Experts Corner
There is nothing more valuable to the busy vacuum coating professional than the opportunity to meet industry experts to help problem-solve technology challenges. Attend any of the following Meet the Experts Corner discussions and get back on the road to productivity.
Operator/Technician Training and In-House Certification
Wednesday, May 11 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
This panel will discuss attendee input on the various options to train operators and technicians (O/Ts) on in-house equipment so as to have a reproducible process, increase production yield, reduce equipment/process downtime, and provide a path for advancement for the O/Ts. The panel will discuss the importance of the O/Ts understanding of where they fit into the product flow, thebasic aspects of the processing (vacuum technology, plasma technology, etc.) why the Manufacturing Process Instructions (MPIs) say what they say, the importance of documentation, and the various types of training that may be utilized (“on-floor”, available literature/internet, formal, etc.). In-house certification will be discussed as to how it relates to O/T advancement as well as indicate who is trained to do what.
Panel Leaders: Donald M. Mattox, Management Plus, Inc., firstname.lastname@example.org; Daniel Rippere, Coherent, Inc., Daniel.email@example.com; Al Douglas, Viavi Solutions, firstname.lastname@example.org
Modern Source Development
Thursday, May 12 1:40 - 2:40 p.m.
The development of new PVD and PECVD sources is continuously needed as the demand for better quality coatings at lower cost and higher throughput continues to grow. Such developments require a strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems as well as plasma physics. This interactive session will focus on the challenges of developing such sources in order to meet increasingly difficult industrial demands.
Panel Leaders: Frank Papa, Gencoa USA; email@example.com; Ralf Bandorf, Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST, Germany, firstname.lastname@example.org; David Stevenson, Ampres, Inc., email@example.com; Rick Welty, Magplas Technik LLC, firstname.lastname@example.org
