As featured in JEMS, our Ring Rescue Compression Device was developed to reduce the need for ring cutting. When an individual presents with a stuck ring due to swelling or increased finger size, the compression device is placed on the finger over the maximum area of swelling and then is inflated. From there, the individual should hold their arm at a 90 degree angle to further reduce swelling and hold for 5 minutes. Once the round is complete, you can deflate and remove the device to see that finger size is visibly reduced. In particularly difficult or chronic cases, you should apply the device for an additional 5 minute round to further decrease swelling.

Once the device is removed, you can attempt to remove the ring. The first step is to apply our laboratory-tested lubricant over the ring. Our lubricant is non-hydrating, which means that unlike other lubricants, it won’t cause the finger to swell back up. It has also been developed to be slippery between metal and skin, but slightly sticky between metal and gloves which will allow you to grip the ring. Our training video outlines the techniques that will give you the greatest chance of success to remove the ring non-destructively.
