The West Virginia University Health System, the state’s largest health system and largest private employer, is comprised of nine hospitals – its flagship academic medical center, and 8 community hospitals.

The WVU Department of Emergency Medicine includes WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center), United Hospital Center, St. Joseph's Hospital, two WVU Urgent Care centers, WVU Student Health, WVU International Travel Clinic, 10 community ED practice sites, and an internal locum tenens practice. Our Department is home to a competitive residency program of 30 residents; we offer fellowships in emergency ultrasound and primary care sports medicine along with a growing EMS section. Across our myriad of EM practices, we care for more than 300,000 patients per year.
