The NA AED Pregnancy Registry currently enrolling

Overview

The North American Antiepileptic Drug (AED) Pregnancy Registry is the oldest running pregnancy Registry in the country. The North American AED Pregnancy Registry began enrolling women in 1997 and now has over 14,000 women enrolled from all over North America.

The Registry's primary goal is to determine the frequency of major malformations in infants who had been exposed to one or more anticonvulsant drugs for any medical reason.

The Registry collects data on pregnancy status, medication type and dosage, and birth outcomes from pregnant women who use antiepileptic medication, via three telephone interviews: at enrollment, at the seventh month of gestation and two months postpartum. In addition, medical records are collected from each participant. Findings are released as soon as they are statistically significant.

The need for a registry of this kind is great. The NA AED Pregnancy Registry is working to provide statistically rigorous data to mothers exposed to anticonvulsant medications.

There is also a need to enroll controls.  Please refer friends and family who are currently pregnant to enroll in our study as a control if you are not currently taking AEDs.
