RHEDI supports patient-centered abortion and contraceptive training in family medicine residencies. 

RHEDI envisions a world where every person can receive patient-centered, compassionate, and safe reproductive health care without barriers. We work to expand abortion and contraceptive training in family medicine residency education using an anti-racist and reproductive justice framework.

RHEDI provides grants, technical assistance and educational resources to support abortion training in family medicine residency programs.

    RHEDI envisions a world where every person can receive the patient-centered, compassionate, and safe reproductive health care to which they are entitled. We work to expand abortion and contraceptive training in Family Medicine residency education using a Reproductive Justice (RJ) approach that centers marginalized communities and stems from a larger Human Rights framework. RHEDI also strives to diversify the workforce in Family Medicine abortion care and is actively engaging in outreach to address diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism in the medical workforce by targeting our efforts to specifically engage BIPOC students, residents and faculty.

    Comparison of Early Abortion Options

    This interactive tool is based on a patient-centered comparison chart of early abortion options. Hovering over or clicking pop-up links can supplement the chart with tips for learning and practice, as well as relevant citations and contextual information that may be useful to keep in mind when discussing the comparison chart with patients. A PDF/Print version of this Comparison of Early Abortion Options is also available for download in English and Spanish.

    A growing number of family medicine residencies now offer comprehensive training which includes didactic and clinical training in contraception, pregnancy options counseling, hands-on abortion training, and pre- and post-abortion care. These programs are interested in attracting residents who seek training that includes abortion care.
