American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is an innovative medical school dedicated to providing a learner-centric education of the highest quality, granting opportunities to underrepresented minorities, fostering a diverse academic community, and ensuring that its graduates develop the skills and attitudes of lifelong learning, compassion, and professionalism. We also provide students who would otherwise be unable to receive a medical education with the tools to become successful physicians.

AUA was founded with the commitment to support underserved communities and to address the impending physician shortage with an emphasis on primary care. As such, the University recognizes its social responsibility to advance the field of medicine and lead the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals to respond to global healthcare needs.

Upon passing the necessary licensure exams, AUA graduates are eligible to practice medicine in all 50 U.S. states, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, and worldwide.

• AUA Residency Outcomes

  AUA has enjoyed a 91% first-time residency attainment rate two years in a row for both 2019 and 2020. Like most high-quality Caribbean or international medical schools, AUA graduates earn a wide variety of residency placements across the spectrum of medical specialties, with the majority of its graduates entering primary care programs after graduating. Many move on to more specialized postgraduate training via fellowship programs.

• Holistic Admissions Review, Scholarships and Financial Aid

  The only academic metric AUA looks at when considering a student is GPA, both prerequisite and cumulative. The Admissions Committee uses a holistic philosophy when evaluating students, typically looking at things like work experience, volunteerism in healthcare fields, personal statements, conduct during the interview process, and intrinsic qualities like determination and dedication. Completing the MCAT is required for US students, but the Admissions Committee will not consider the numerical MCAT score when making an admissions decision.

  Your Academic Success is important to us. Our Education Enhancement Department (EED), available to both preclinical and clinical students, offers services and activities that provides assistance in students’ organizational skills, study habits, complement and enrich classroom instruction, improve student performance and advance instructional goals for learning, retention, and curriculum progression.
