The Context
Gene and Cell therapies (GCT) are booming. Thanks to viral vectors, genetic material is introduced into the patient's deficient cells to modify the genetic defect or manage the disease.Ensuring the efficacy and safety of these new drugs is key.
Virus concentration & purity of the solution must be precisely determined. However, viruses are invisible with standard optical techniques.
Today, due to the lack of solutions allowing continuous controls all along the biomanufacturing chain, the manufacturers work almost blindly (limited control point) for 4 weeks & a cost of 500.000€ per treatment.
Therefore, there is a major need for an "in-process" quality control method for viral vector batches for the industrial development of GCTs.
The Product
Myriade, (www.myriadelab.com) develops an innovative nanoscale imaging technology: VIDEODROP.
Based on the principles of interferometry, VIDEODROP makes it possible to measure Size & Concentration of lentivirus & adenvirus
- in the range of 30 nm and 10 microns
- in real time (40s)
- in a single drop (5µL)
- without labelling
- without purification if required
- on viscous & complex samples
VIDEODROP is as a new tool for bioproduction follow-up : - At early stage of development, Videodrop can be used for :
- Yield calculation,
- Process optimization
- Formulation screening
- At a late stage of development, Videodrop can be positionned for in-process controls and final product characterization
Videodrop is the ideal "at-line" system for fast "in-process" controls of complex solutions containing viruses & extracellular vesicles
