Dr. Johanna Zmud
Senior Research Scientist
Texas A&M Transportation Institute
Profile
Dr. Johanna Zmud is head of TTI’s Multimodal Planning Division, which is comprised of travel forecasting, transit mobility, and planning and engagement programs. Her specific research expertise covers a range of topics, from automated/connected vehicle policy to travel behavior analysis, including the influence of changing socio-demographics, proliferation of transportation alternatives to private vehicle ownership, and impacts of new technologies. She is also a subject matter expert in research methodologies and in the appropriate application of emerging data sources, given data privacy, data ownership, and data security issues. Her research is often focused on closing the gap between changing mobility, technological development, and public policy-making activity. Prior to TTI, she worked at the RAND Corporation as Manager of the Transportation, Space, and Technology Program. For 20 years, she was co-founder of NuStats, a survey science consultancy specializing in transportation studies, and GeoStats, a technology solution firm for measuring and monitoring personal and vehicle movements.
