R.I.D.E.S was created by Frank McMillan, an avid rider of trails in the redwood forests in Santa Cruz Mountains to the granite, pines and firs found in the Sierra. He's also a committed road rider along and around the Pacific Coast to stay fit and compete in 2 to 3 triathlons a year. Frank is a long time service contract specialist and was taken aback at how bad the "extended warranties" were for the bike industry. He discovered this big gaping hole while attending an Interbike in 2011.
When we create programs the first thing we ask is: what would I want covered if I was buying this plan for this type of product? Repairs for accidents while riding was the first thing that came to mind. First hand knowledg of damages that happen to bike and body are all too familiar. The next thing was to cover things like chains. A bike can't be tuned for an optimum riding experience with a stretched or broken chain. The third was to acknowledge people often put off the maintenance of their bikes due to lack of money or convenience, so let's entitle them to an annual maintenance in the second and third year.
We priced the program, presented it to the NBDA for approval. R.I.D.E.S.is now nationwide.
