In September of 2018, Acute Angling operated a 3 week exploratory trip on the Rio Curicuriari. At the most remote western edge of the Amazon basin, this protected river is the Rio Negro’s last unexplored giant peacock bass tributary. Although 3 weeks was hardly enough time to learn all aspects of this big river system, one important fact jumped out at us immediately … There are huge fish here! This beautiful blackwater river, completely enclosed within a remote Indian reservation, holds honkin’ big peacock bass that have never been fished before and never seen a lure.
We found four clear facts;
· There are huge fish here.
· This is not a numbers fishery.
· We need more data
· We’re going back again!
This river has already shown us that it is a potential world record fishery, so we have extremely high expectations for our return. Our short visit produced an astounding 22 fish over 20 pounds in a short three week visit and a total of 54 trophy fish. Keep in mind that this doesn’t consider the amount of trophies lost … We estimate that as least as many trophy fish were lost as were landed, including some giants that simply overwhelmed our anglers.
We’re still missing a ton of information about this fishery, so, we’re going back to explore further! This time around, we plan an in-depth, extended exploration to fill in the blanks and perhaps find ourselves another new world-record. We’re planning to use a mobile accommodation that will allow us to cover more water faster. We’ll be equipped with complete measuring instrumentation to precisely determine fishery parameters and with an array of fishing tools such as sonar and fish finders.
The 2019 Curicuriari Exploratory will operate from a brand-new floating hotel, with single occupancy cabins, with individual air-conditioners and private bathrooms with hot showers in each cabin and big, comfortable beds. It will provide angler comfort levels second to none. This is an extremely remote region, creating significant logistical challenges, thus, anglers will arrive via a direct floatplane flight. Trip dates are available during the region’s optimal dry season period in September and October of 2019.
Total trip price is $7950. You can buy cheaper trips and more expensive trips, but you can’t buy this kind of experience anywhere else at any price. If you’ve been dreaming of a chance to go hand to hand with the biggest specimens of the world’s most powerful sportfish, then don’t miss this great opportunity.
