INASTOMER is made of an insulative rubber material and a conductive powder. When they are mixed and molded together, the conductive particles are dispersed evenly in the rubber material and do not make contact with each other when in a non-deformed state(i.e. there is no pressure applied to the INASTOMER), and indicates very high electrical resistance(the 7th power of 10Ω)<fig.1>, However, if you apply pressure to the INASTOMER, the conductive particles in the rubber will make contact with each other, forming conductive ''chains''<fig.2> The characteristic increasing force to resistance changes with a gentle slope, as shown in fig.1. When the pressure is removed from the INASTOMER , and the natural elasticity of the polymer reforms its molded shape, the conductive chains formed by the conductive particles are broken, and the electrical resistance returns again to the 7th power of 10Ω.
