Protect your business and the community by reducing risk.

Think Twice and Alco Prevention Canada are the leading providers of breathalyzer services and products in North America.

Liquor liability lawsuits are the number one threat to a successful bar business, and in a fast-paced hospitality environment it’s difficult for your service team to know if a guest will drive impaired later. When people say they “feel okay to drive" without understanding breath-alcohol-content or DUI laws, that behavior places everyone at risk, including alcohol serving establishments caught up in an overserving lawsuit. Right or wrong, the justice system can hold the owner of the liquor license responsible for the actions of their servers and customers, but when it comes to effective action the $1 million question is; what more can be done?

Think Twice and Alco Prevention Canada empower your team with skills and tools that shift responsibility back to the public. The largest hospitality insurance providers endorse this approach because breathalyzers are used by law enforcement to arrest people. Visit our booth to learn how preventing DUIs will reduce your risk and protect the community!

Think Twice to Partner with Hayden Beverage Company for DUI Prevention

Bellevue, Wash. – Think Twice, a leading provider of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) prevention solutions throughout the U.S. and Canada, is partnering with Hayden Beverage Company, a leading beer and wine distributor in the Northwest, to offer its customers with a single-use breathalyzer in an effort to prevent DUIs and promote responsible drinking.

Think Twice Single-Use Breathalyzers can read a person’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level, providing results in four different BAC levels: 0.0 percent, 0.02 percent, 0.05 percent, and 0.08 percent. The legal driving limit is 0.08 percent in all states except for Utah; however, many people may be impaired with a BAC level below the legal limit and should not drive, especially when any amount of alcohol in a person’s system could result in a DUI arrest. The single-use breathalyzer will be available in bars and stores where Hayden Beverage Company’s products are sold.

“As one of the largest beverage distributors in the Northwest, our partnership with Hayden Beverage Company represents an opportunity to significantly shift our culture away from casual, impaired driving,” said Justin Thompson, President and co-founder of Think Twice.

Hayden Beverage Company provides targeted, creative and informative education programs to their staff, accounts, and consumers, including programs centered on customer protection and public safety. The partnership with Think Twice will help educate Hayden Beverage Company’s accounts and consumers on how they can prevent DUIs from happening, keeping both customers and the public safe.

Hayden Beverage Company distributes beer and wine to thousands of bars and stores across Idaho and Montana.

Hayden beverage cares about their customers and the community. “We see ourselves as a family, and we want all our customers to get home safely to their families,” said Hayden Beverage Company Owner and CEO, Dodds Hayden.

The company has been owned and operated by the Hayden family since 1970, celebrating its 50th anniversary this coming year.

Think Twice Launches DUI Prevention Program in Utah Market

Bellevue, Wash.  – Think Twice, a leading provider of driving under the influence (DUI) prevention solutions throughout the U.S. and Canada, has launched their DUI prevention program in Utah.

Think Twice offers a single-use breathalyzer that reads a person’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level, providing results in four different BAC levels: 0.0 percent, 0.02 percent, 0.05 percent, and 0.08 percent. Several factors affect BAC, including the number of drinks, age, gender, body weight and the amount of time that has passed since the first drink. For many people, this may result in intoxication with a BAC level below the legal limit. The single-use breathalyzer provides users with an understanding of where they fall in the scale of intoxication so they can make a decision on how to safely get home after a night out.

In 2018, Utah instated the lowest drunken driving limit by lowering the state’s BAC standard from 0.08 to 0.05. Nine other states are considering lowering the BAC limit. Bills have been proposed, but not passed, in Hawaii and Washington. The National Transportation Safety Board has estimated that a nationwide 0.05 limit could save at least 1,500 lives a year.

“We are excited to bring our DUI prevention solution to Utah. Think Twice helps with the transition of consumers adjusting to the new 0.05 BAC limit law by providing them an understanding of how intoxicated they may be after one, two, or six drinks,” said Justin Thompson, president and co-founder of Think Twice.

Utah laws restrict supermarkets operating within the state to only sell packaged beer up to 5.0 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) at grocery and convenience stores and at establishments operating under a “beer only” type license, such as taverns, beer bars and some restaurants. Beer over 5.0 percent ABV is available in state liquor stores, package agencies, and at clubs and restaurants licensed to sell liquor.

“With Utah leading the way in strict alcohol laws, we want to provide people with a way to make better decisions about driving during an evening with friends and family,” said Thompson.

Think Twice is currently offered in seven states and over 1,500 alcohol serving establishments. In Utah, Think Twice breathalyzers can currently be found in Hog Wallow, Hopkins Brewery, Proper Brewing, X Wives Place, Ogden’s Own, Desert Edge Brewery, Gracies, Pats BBQ, Club 90, Twist, The Green Pig, Boozetique, and 7-11 by the University of Utah. Breathalyzers are sold for $2..

“We can already be found in 13 locations across Utah and continue to look at how we can expand to reach even more bars, restaurants, and stores where alcohol is sold,” said Forrest McKai, vice president and co-founder of Think Twice.

In addition to the breathalyzers, Think Twice’s DUI prevention program extends beyond the single-use breathalyzer to include a grassroots effort designed to educate the public on DUI prevention. This effort includes equipping people with an understanding of their own do not drive threshold. Think Twice also volunteers at a variety of events, including festivals and brewfests, to educate the general public about the difference between intoxication and BAC.

“Events are a significant aspect to what Think Twice is all about,” said McKai. “Part of what makes Think Twice unique is our holistic approach to tackling the DUI problem, beyond only selling breathalyzers. Education around the difference between intoxication and BAC levels is a vital component to combating DUIs.

    DUI Prevention Strategy
The concept is simple; If breathalyzers are used by law enforcement to arrest people after they drive away from a bar or restaurant, it makes sense to offer customers an easy way to understand when they should not drive.

To accomplish this goal, we offer a single-use breathalyzer that informs the user if they are within a range between 0.00% – 0.08% breath-alcohol-content (BAC). It’s important to note the device does NOT provide a specific BAC result. This feature allows patrons who are not apparently intoxicated to know when they should not drive without causing a legal issue for your establishment(s).

The breathalyzers can be promoted with a variety of media kit items like posters in restrooms, table tents, checkbook inserts, and bar coasters. All posters are placed in frames with the objective to be a long-term Drink Responsibly campaign. Please select the size and theme of the posters you want. If you prefer your order to include a combination of different poster themes, just add the details into the notes section at checkout.

We suggest each breathalyzer be retailed for $2.00 and that is the most common interaction your guests will have with Think Twice. We also offer a free service team handbook that covers best practices for servers to follow that reduce liquor liability.
