Steps for Automation Success
As labor challenges increase and automation becomes more affordable, first-time robot adopters are still hesitant to invest in robotics and feel good about achieving the goals to aid in their success. We will cover the basic areas of understanding robots and how to achieve success with them by answering the following questions: What’s a robot, and how do I know what I need? What applications are ripe for automation? What are some Pro’s and Con’s of automation? What’s an expected return on investment? What’s an integrator, risk assessment, and operator? And why are these things important? How long will the robot last and what kind of maintenance is expected? How do I program it, and who’s going to teach me? How do I best ensure it gets the full potential of use? How do I decide when it’s time to add more automation?

Lessons Learned in the Automation Journey
Businesses involved in sheet metal fabrication know the future is in automation. The question is how and when to automate. This presentation is an account of lessons learned during several automation journeys. The first lesson may be a shocker: in a 2021 survey the number one reason for choosing automation was not lack of skilled labor but the desire to improve the operational trifecta: Price, Quality and Delivery. This session will highlight the takeaways from this survey and drill down to specific case stories of three different companies in their automation journey- one just beginning, one moving to a sophisticated line and the last pushing the future of automation. Beyond the case studies, there will be an intelligent highlight of the economy - that highlights the true issues from fodder. The end result will be a resource with examples, ideas and opportunities to consider in your own automation journey.
