 Press Releases

  • RoboVent Releases the ProCube II
    Portable Weld Fume Extractor

New unit delivers more extraction power and greater maneuverability

Sterling Heights, Mich. (July 2023) — RoboVent®, a Nederman Company and leader in industrial dust, fume & mist collection, has upgraded their popular ProCube™ portable Hi-Vac weld fume extractor with even greater power and mobility. Built to last, the powerful and portable ProCube™ II now features a 4 HP motor and 153 CFM to easily support up to two manual welders with fume guns and other applications requiring portable extraction power.

ProCube II is the most powerful portable filtration unit of its size. It pairs perfectly with one or two fume extraction guns for manual welding. These systems integrate a high-performance weld torch with built-in fume extraction to capture the majority of weld fumes as they are created, significantly reducing welders’ exposure to welding fumes. ProCube can also be attached to a small movable backdraft plenum for manual welding or used with the RoboVent FlexTrac™ tip extraction system for light-production robotic welding.

With four heavy-duty casters, the ProCube II can be easily moved by one person, so welders can stay highly mobile while working on large weldments. This makes ProCube II ideal for welders using fume guns to weld large infrastructure components. ProCube II is also a great solution for welders working in tight spaces or remote areas where traditional source capture is not possible or practical.

With greater power and maneuverability, ProCube II is the perfect portable hi-vac extraction unit for small fabrication shops or manufacturers needing a high degree of flexibility in weld fume extraction. Its small footprint makes it easy to fit wherever weld fume extraction is needed. Hi-vac extraction protects workers and helps facilities ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and meet ACGIH guidelines for exposure to hazardous weld fume components such as hexavalent chromium or manganese.

“The new ProCube has been significantly reengineered and enhanced based on feedback from our customers,” said Rick Kreczmer, President, RoboVent. “After extensive testing and engineering, we have optimized the fume extractor to support two manual welders with a single unit, or even a light-production robotic welder. This updated model is more powerful but also features enhanced maneuverability and other new features for increased safety and easy maintenance.”

The ProCube II generates just 82 decibels when in use and has additional noise-reducing features to improve operator comfort. Its size makes it ideal for unique workspaces – at just 42.8”(108cm) high and with a 23.5”(60cm) x 22.25”(56.5cm) footprint, it’s small enough to fit almost anywhere and easy to move wherever is needed. It also features simple dashboard controls for ease of use and minimal maintenance due to the built-in filter cleaning system and easy-clean metal dust trays. It can be configured with an automated start-stop option, so that it comes on automatically with the weld torch and turns off to save energy when not needed.

“With any product relaunch, we aim to take an existing offering and improve its function, efficiency and design based on our customers’ feedback,” said Frank Cea, VP, Growth & Engagement, RoboVent. “Welders asked us for increased welding production capabilities, superior fume extraction and ease of use without sacrificing quality or safety – these were all focal points for the new design.”

  • RoboVent Spire™ Robotic Weld Fume Extraction Re-Imagined and Now Available in Three Sizes

New Spire series of robotic weld fume extraction equipment will be showcased at FABTECH 2023

Sterling Heights, Mich. (July 2023) — The popular RoboVent Spire™ equipment series, known for its small footprint and versatility, is now available in three modular sizes to accommodate a greater range of air flow requirements, from a single robotic welder to two full-size robotic welding cells. RoboVent, a leader in industrial dust collection and air filtration, will debut the upgraded modular Spire™ air filtration system at FABTECH 2023.

“The new, modular Spire can now be sized to better meet the needs of manufacturers with smaller robotic cells or individual robots,” said Rick Kreczmer, President, RoboVent. “You don’t always need the 5,500 CFM that the full-size original Spire provides. We now offer Spire in three sizes, so manufacturers aren’t paying for airflow they don’t need.”

RoboVent Spire™ is known for having the smallest footprint per CFM in the industry. The original Spire unit, with ten filter cartridges and 5,500 CFM, is 12.3’ tall and has a footprint of just 36’ x 36’, about the same size as a wire barrel. The new modular Spire will come in three sizes and CFM ratings. All three units will retain the same small footprint as the original, but will have different heights to accommodate different filter configurations.

    • The smallest size, with four filter cartridges and 2,200 CFM, is perfect for a single robot or small 10’x10’ weld cell.

    • The medium, with six filter cartridges and 3,300 CFM, will support a larger 15’ x 15’ robotic cell.

    • The large ten-cartridge Spire, with 5,500 CFM, will support up to two robotic weld cells.

All three units retain the plug-and-play features that make Spire easy to place and move as factory configurations change. The units are easy to operate and maintain, with a simple, 7” full-color HMI control panel. An automated pulsing system and deflector plates protect the filters and extend filter life. Spire also features eDrive - an automatic variable frequency drive (VFD) motor, which adjusts the motor speed to compensate for filter loading and save energy. A clean agent gas fire suppression system is optional.

“We designed Spire as a cost-effective and versatile alternative to centralized, ducted dust collection systems,” said Alysha Yinger, Director of Engineering, RoboVent. “It gives manufacturers more flexibility when they need to retool production lines or add capacity. Now, with three sizes, we’re giving them even more options.”

Spire’s small footprint is due in part to innovative filter design. RoboVent’s PleatLock technology, featured on the Spire™ filters, has 35% more usable filter media within the same cartridge size. This minimizes the size of the unit per CFM and allows each filter to capture more particulate, allowing for a longer time between filter changes.

“We’re excited to relaunch our Spire air filtration system at FABTECH 2023,” said Frank Cea, VP, Growth & Engagement. “We know that a small footprint, low maintenance equipment and flexibility are key for our welding customers, and this new updated design delivers. Show attendees will not only get to preview the new and improved modular design, along with our newly launched ProCube™, but they will get to experience our first tradeshow with Nederman.”

Nederman acquired RoboVent in 2022, significantly strengthening its North American position by becoming the number one player within the U.S. weld fume extraction segment. Nederman continues to strengthen its ability to deliver on its mission to protect people, planet and production from the harmful effects of airborne contaminants. This will be the first FABTECH show where the two organizations are exhibiting together; attendees can find both at booth B35054.

In addition to Spire™, show attendees can also get a look at other new products from RoboVent, including:

    • The ProCube™ II portable HiVac filtration system.

    • The Spire™ Series of dust collectors for robotic welding, now in three sizes and CFM ratings.

    • The Delta3™ Inline centrifugal spark arrestor.

    • The Senturion™ Vortex ductless ambient air filtration system.

  • Sterling Heights, Mich. (October, 2022) — RoboVent, a leader in industrial dust collection and air filtration, has launched the new Delta3™ Inline Spark Arrestor. Built to last from heavy-gauge steel with all-welded construction, the Delta3 Inline Spark Arrestor from RoboVent offers unbeatable spark arrestance with exceptionally low pressure drop for energy savings.

In head-to-head testing against industry leaders, Delta3 Inline extinguished the competition with the best overall combination of spark control and efficiency. “The Delta3 Inline Spark Arrestor allowed zero sparks through ductwork at all tested airspeeds and tied for the lowest pressure drop among all tested technologies, which helps to reduce the energy required for operation and improves filter life,” said Alysha Yinger, Director of Engineering, RoboVent. “It was designed for versatility, durability and performance.”

Delta3 Inline can be used with a variety of dust collectors on the market, including RoboVent’s new flagship dust collector, Senturion. It can be placed at the inlet of the dust collector (or other types of equipment) or inline with ductwork for the dust collection, ventilation or HVAC system.

Spark arrestors, such as Delta3 Inline Spark Arrestor, keep sparks out of the ductwork and/or dust collector filter chamber. These systems should be used whenever sparks are present near the inlet of the dust collection system. Spark-producing processes include, but are not limited to:

    • Welding

    • Cutting/Laser cutting

    • Grinding/Filing

    • Abrasive Blasting/Wheel Blasting

    • Shot Peening/Surface Texturing

    • Spark Machining/Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)

“The Delta3 Inline Spark Arrestor is an evolution of our best-selling Delta3 centrifugal technology,” said Rick Kreczmer, President, RoboVent. “Over two years of extensive testing and engineering, we have optimized the design to reduce pressure drop and save energy for our customers, while retaining and even improving the exceptional spark reduction of the original. Our goal was to create a product that would outperform our competition and provide facility managers with a true inline option for energy savings and ease of installation.”

Centrifugal spark arrestors create an airflow pattern that drives sparks and embers against the outer walls, stripping the thermal envelope and extinguishing the spark. Delta3 Inline creates the centrifugal action without any airflow direction changes, which maintains better air speed and reduces the pressure drop common in spark arrestance technologies. High-air velocities are maintained on the surfaces inside the spark arrestor, minimizing particulate deposits so the unit is constantly cleaning itself. During design, RoboVent conducted hundreds of tests of competing centrifugal spark arrestors as well as simpler mesh screen spark traps to examine both spark arrestance capabilities and pressure drop. High pressure drop makes the dust collector work harder to maintain effective airflow, driving up energy costs.

“With any product development, we go straight to the source to learn about pain points, so we create solutions that deliver results,” said Frank Cea, Director of Marketing and Development, RoboVent. “Customers who use the product will experience superior spark arrestance without sacrificing energy savings. Our customers want products that prevent fires and explosions, help keep their workers safe, while providing easy installation, maintenance and energy savings - these were all focal points for the new Delta3 design.”
