  • Burlington, Ontario, Canada, July 2023 – Xiris Automation is pleased to announce that it has released its Pre-Weld Inspection system for HF Tube Mills. With a goal of meeting the long-standing needs of tube fabricators to monitor tubes going into the weld box on a High Frequency (HF) tube mill, the system is able to measure and track the position and temperatures of various features of the tube as it heats up and is formed at the induction coil.

    Using a thermal camera specifically designed to measure temperature in the range of hot metals (e.g. 350-1800°C). the Pre-Weld Inspection System is easy to set up and define tolerance limits, reporting results in real-time to the operator. Dimensional features such as V angle and V length, and actual temperatures of the strip edges, weld point and resulting bead can all be more effectively monitored to detect whether the tube welding process remains within control. All thermal image video and extracted feature data can be recorded for further evaluation for quality assurance.

    The system includes a robust housing for the camera that is capable of withstanding the harsh environment of the immediate area of the induction coil on most HF tube mills, using air to keep the optics area clean. The system comes with a ruggedized HMI controller with several interface options to integrate with the tube mill and plant process monitoring systems.     One of the highlights of Xiris Automation's showcase at FABTECH 2023 is the release of their Artificial Intelligence tool designed to process welding audio signals. With the Audio AI tool, fabricators can now establish an acceptable range of audio signals for welding processes and receive real-time alarms for anomalies such as burn-through and wire feed skips that could indicate welding defects.

    Developed as a result of extensive product development efforts, the Audio AI tool meets fabricators' demands for remote monitoring of welding processes and the ability to detect process discontinuities. Leveraging the audio signal generated by Xiris' WeldMic™, the Audio AI tool can be easily trained in production, using a self-learning algorithm from an audio sample of the user's welding process to establish an acceptable range of audio signals for welding processes and receive real-time alarms for anomalies such as burn-through and wire feed skips that could indicate welding defects.

    Included with Xiris' WeldStudio™ 3 Pro software, the Audio AI tool provides a user-friendly interface for camera controls, graphical overlays, video recording and playback, as well as image and audio processing.

  • Burlington, Ontario, Canada, April 11, 2023 Xiris Automation, a leading provider of innovative camera-based solutions for quality control in the metal fabrication industry, has announced the launch of SeamMonitor™, a camera-based measurement tool that provides real-time monitoring of the the torch tip-to-weld seam alignment and weld seam size on Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welded tube mills. 

    Metal tube fabricators who use TIG welding know that precise alignment of the welding torch to the welding seam is critical to achieving high-quality welds with clean edges and minimal weld bead. Occasionally, the seam to torch tip alignment can move over time due to various tensions in the tube, causing it to twist as it is pulled through the weld head. As a result, the weld seam can rotate in and out of position with respect to the TIG welding torch, which may result in defects and production losses. 

    To solve this problem, Xiris has enhanced its SeamMonitor system, which provides a robust solution to monitor TIG tip-to-weld seam alignment on TIG Tube mills. The SeamMonitor combines a High Dynamic Range (HDR) weld camera that can clearly capture the TIG torch, weld arc, and surrounding environment with powerful machine vision measurement software that enables real-time monitoring of the weld seam size, torch tip location, and relative offset between the torch tip and its seam.
