  • Fagor Arrasate, leader in the slitting line manufacturing sector, presents in premiere in FABTECH the Slitter Tooling Robot (FASTR). This advanced robotic warehouse for the automatic configuration of slitting tooling represents a significant technological leap that improves productivity and efficiency in slitting lines.

The increasing level of automation in the coil slitting line sector has been driven by the difficulties in finding skilled labor and the need to be increasingly competitive in the market. To address these challenges, Fagor Arrasate has developed the Fagor Arrasate Slitter Tooling Robot (FASTR), a robotic warehouse that streamlines the process of setting up slitting tooling on slitting line shears. This technological innovation represents a significant leap in industry automation and is designed to improve the productivity and profitability of slitting operations.

The Fagor Arrasate Slitter Tooling Robot (FASTR) offers numerous advantages that improve the efficiency and accuracy of the tooling changeover process. A calculation software manages the assembly performed by the robot, while an identification and control system for each element ensures accuracy every time. This eliminates assembly errors and significantly reduces the time required to complete the operation.

In addition to improving productivity, the Fagor Arrasate Slitter Tooling Robot (FASTR) also focuses on ensuring the quality of the final product. The robot features an automatic edge inspection system and a tool washer, which ensure cutting accuracy and keep the cutting blades in optimal condition. This results in high-quality end products and avoids costly cutting defects.

The robotic warehouse not only optimizes efficiency and quality, but also offers significant improvements in terms of safety and ergonomics for machine operators. By avoiding manual handling of the cutting tooling, the risk of accidents is reduced and a safer and more ergonomic working environment is created.

The FASTR system manages all the elements required for sheet metal cutting, including blades, spacers, spacers, rubbers, stop rings and edge guiding. The robot accumulates these elements in a buffer and places them on the rotating turret arm once they are ready. With remarkable efficiency, the robot can prepare a set of tooling for a 2,000 mm arm in an average of 25 minutes, including the additional 6 minutes for loading onto the arm.

The FASTR system's tool warehouse has a rectangular structure with dimensions of 7m long, 3m wide and 3.5m high. It has five heights of support pins on the side walls, allowing storage of up to 150 pins. Each pin has the capacity to store 400 mm of tools and support up to 150 kg of weight.

Precise identification of each tool is achieved by means of a laser engraved identification number. This identifier allows visual verification of the position of each tool within the magazine and matches the information in the control PC database. In addition, the tooling can have a Matrix code that allows automatic identification of the tool number.

The system control keeps the position of each tool updated at all times, whether they are in a rack, on the loading robot, on a turret arm or out of the magazine for maintenance.

The FASTR system also includes an automatic knife edge inspection system and a tool inspection area for operators.

  • FAGOR ARRASATE´s laser blanking system combines a fiber laser cutting machine with an automatic metal coil feeding system, resulting in a cost-effective and efficient cutting solution.

The laser blanking line provides finished laser cut parts directly from a coil, offering many advantages compared to conventional laser cutting from the sheet, such as:

    1. Better material efficiency and savings on raw material thanks to the continuous nesting that eliminates that part-to-edge unused space typical of laser cutting from the sheet.
    2. Increased throughput: In a coil fed laser cutting line the metal is available continuously, so many more parts can be produced until a new coil is needed, achieving a higher throughput and almost 100% machine usage.
    3. Lower material costs: Every sheet comes from a coil. So, you can benefit of a significantly reduced procurement price for coils as opposed to sheet goods.

Laser blanking technology also reduces power consumption compared to alternatives such as press lines.
