• Complete solution from coil loading to tube finishing (Jul 25, 2023)

  Fives has signed a contract with Husteel to design and supply a complete solution to manufacture oil country tubular goods for its new plant in the USA. Husteel, part of South Korea’s Shinan Group, is a leading welded tube and pipe manufacturer. The company is investing $122 million into a greenfield plant in Splendora, Texas.

  Fives will provide engineering, manufacturing and supply of the complete solution to produce tube and pipe with a diameter of 60 to 114 mm and a wall thickness of up to 10mm for the oil and gas industry.

  "The new plant in Texas will be our first facility in the United States. We are relying on Fives’ presence in the local market, its long-standing reputation as a supplier of reliable equipment, and their vast experience. We look forward to starting production in this new facility in 2025", says Hoon Park, CEO of Husteel.

  "We are very proud and excited to be part of this new project delivering our complete solution from slitting to tube finishing. • Highly flexible manufacturing execution system for US and Mexico’s tube makers (Jul 25, 2023)

  US and Mexico’s tube makers have recently chosen OTOMES, a highly flexible and modular manufacturing execution system from Fives, to optimize their production process.

  The tube makers faced difficulties to effectively monitor the information flow from the entry of raw materials all the way to the final product shipment, and were looking for an execution system, designed for their needs that would allow successful production management.

  OTOMES is a modular, distributed, client – server application, enabling producers to collect and store production data into relational databases. It provides production & warehouse tracking, quality control and customized environment. It also provides continuous feedback on performance indicators, energy consumption and production costs, in a customized way.

  "Steel and tube manufacturers benefit from OTOMES system due to an increase in productivity, energy consumption and stock reduction, real time data analyses and delivery time predictability," says Francesco Cazzola, Digital Sales Manager at Fives OTO, a Fives’ subsidiary, specialised in tube mill and automation equipment.   The information flow is continuous, guaranteed and transaction oriented. Data coming from multiple plants of the same industry can be aggregated, analysed and effectively assist both operators and managers in their day-by-day activities anywhere.

  With a wide range of OTOMES systems installed around the world, these latest agreements in the USA and Mexico represent an important step for Fives in advancing the digitalization of the steel and tube industries.

• Advanced technologies to produce high quality tubes in Australia (Jul 25, 2023)

  Fives, a leading engineering group, was entrusted by Orrcon Steel, part of BlueScope, to design, manufacture and supply a complete OTO tube mill in Unanderra, Australia, to serve the needs of the regional industry.

  The new mill will produce high quality tubes and profiles for residential, industrial and commercial buildings, as well as structural and architectural elements with strong aesthetic and geometrical advantages.

  Fives, together with its regional partner ProTube Engineering, will provide Orrcon Steel with a complete OTO tube mill line, from coil loading to an automatic packaging system for 10-inch diameter steel tubes.

  “We are building this line to contribute to the future needs of our people. We chose to work with Fives again due to its experience in turnkey projects and its proven track record that will guarantee high quality standards, sustainable production and compliance with strict safety rules. We are confident that our cooperation will present outstanding results to our customers once the line is commissioned in early 2024,” says Tony Schreiber, General Manager of Orrcon Steel.

  In addition, the project targets to obtain a green production certification for manufactured tubes thanks to regenerative systems and energy-efficient motors to be installed at the Unanderra’s facility of Orrcon Steel.

  Robopack at the Unanderra’s facility of Orrcon Steel features a unique configuration modularity, having 3 robotic arms. It will bundle tubes correctly spaced and aligned guaranteeing high performance and flexibility.
