  • THE WOODLANDS, TX, October 3, 2022 – Global Shop Solutions, a leading provider of ERP software to manufacturers around the globe, is proud to celebrate the 5th year anniversary of its Cloud ERP product. An investment of high importance to customers, the adoption of Cloud ERP greatly surpassed the five-year forecast.

Designed to make technical support easier and reduce the total cost of ownership for manufacturers, Cloud ERP simplifies the software through increased speed, improved accessibility, stronger security, automatic data and systems backups, and more. According to George Thuo, Director of Cloud Technology for Global Shop Solutions, Cloud ERP caught the attention of current and prospective customers from the start.

“Like most new Global Shop Solutions products, our Cloud ERP is a result of listening to customers and responding to their needs,” says Thuo. “Several years ago, a growing number of prospective ERP buyers began asking if our ERP system was offered in the cloud. Based on the demand, I assembled a team to develop the product, which we launched in 2017. Five years later I am proud to say we have more than doubled our forecasts for the number of Cloud ERP users and made ERP software better for hundreds of manufacturers.”

Cloud-based ERP software offers many advantages, starting with lower system costs. With Cloud-based ERP, companies can maintain ERP at a very reasonable price because the ERP vendor performs these tasks for the customer. Another advantage is the ability for employees to access their company’s ERP system from anywhere, including at-home workstations or in real time at multiple facilities. When the COVID pandemic hit in 2020, the demand for Cloud ERP skyrocketed.

“As many of our customers began sending employees to work at home, they needed easier external access to their Global Shop Solutions ERP system,” says Thuo. “We had a lot of customers scrambling to move to the cloud so they could continue operations with increased speed and accessibility.”

    Looking Ahead

In 2017, about 25 percent of new Global Shop Solutions customers opted for Cloud-based ERP. Currently, about 65 percent of new customers choose that route. Thuo expects these numbers will continue to climb, in large part due to security concerns.

“With cyberattacks increasing in the manufacturing market, Cloud-based ERP costs less to protect the integrity of the system, especially for smaller manufacturers who can’t afford to have IT or security experts on staff,” says Thuo. “Our Cloud ERP helps customers avoid malware attacks because it’s protected with the best technology. Going forward, ERP providers will have to integrate security into their product, and the cloud is a great option. We will continue to innovate to protect manufacturers while making their day-to-day life simpler with Cloud ERP.”

  • THE WOODLANDS, TX, MAY 10, 2022 – Global Shop Solutions, a leading provider of ERP software with more than 3,000 successful implementations around the globe, has launched a new Fast Track ERP Implementation to reduce the time it takes manufacturers to Go Live with ERP software and achieve a quicker return on investment. Developed after analysis of why some companies lose momentum during implementation, the Fast Track ERP Implementation process provides a blueprint based on best practices for helping manufacturers stay on course and Go Live faster.

“The time it takes to Go Live with an ERP system can vary depending on the customer’s goals, time frame, available resources and other factors,” says Chris Pinaire, Director of Consulting & Implementation for Global Shop Solutions. “Our data shows implementations completed within three to four months generally produce the best results for customers that meet certain criteria. Based on that data, we developed the Fast Track ERP Implementation process to help new customers roll out the implementation process, stay on track, and go live with Global Shop Solutions in 120 days or less.”

This simplified process focuses on the fundamentals every new ERP user needs to know to get started. No customization, no advanced functionality – just the basic, core processes that facilitate a smooth transition from the company’s previous business management system to Global Shop Solutions. New customers that don’t meet the requirements and prefer to launch their ERP system with more capabilities can opt for Global Shop Solutions’ standard implementation process. These implementations require more preparation and often include advanced functionality and customizations, which can take additional time and resources for a successful Go Live.

Fast Track ERP Implementation overcomes obstacles by focusing on the core functionality of the system and using a detailed training schedule to keep the implementation moving forward. Taking the manufacturer’s business requirements into account, the Global Shop Solutions implementation team strategically aligns the training schedule to coincide with specific goals and milestones that need to be met during implementation.

This approach offers several advantages. Achieving the interim goals and deadlines sustains focus while laying a solid foundation for using the software to full advantage. The implementation doesn’t drag on for months or even years. Manufacturers can go live with the software within a few months and see their return on investment shortly thereafter.

“We understand that manufacturers still have to run a business while learning to use ERP,” says Pinaire. “Fast Track ERP Implementation customers will Go Live in 90 to 120 days, resulting in an implementation completed on time and on budget. From there, the customer can work with our continuous improvement team to build on their progress and achieve all they want to do with the software.”
  • THE WOODLANDS, TX, February 23, 2021 – Global Shop Solutions, a leading developer of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Founded in 1976 by Dick Alexander, the family-owned business has grown from a small software developer to a global enterprise with five separate divisions in the U.S, Mexico, U.K, Southeast Asia, and New Zealand. A recognized industry leader, Global Shop Solutions currently serves thousands of discrete manufacturers in more than 25 countries and is known worldwide for making their ERP software customers’ most valuable asset. The company credits this outcome to product quality, customer service, and family-business values.

“I want to salute my father, who founded this company 45 years ago and still comes into work every day,” says Dusty Alexander, President and CEO of Global Shop Solutions. “He built this company by listening to our customers, developing the software based on their needs, creating a work environment where employees can grow and thrive, and delivering the highest level of customer service. Forty-five years later, these fundamental values continue to guide the business in everything we do.”

“I also admire the years of hard work and persistence my father and mother put into building a successful business,” says Alexander. “They made a lot sacrifices and went through a lot of growing pains most young companies experience. Both of my parents put their hearts into getting this company to where it is today, and I’m proud to continue the legacy they built along with my sister Erika Klein (VP of R&D) and brothers-in-law Barry Klein (CFO) and Jayland Keeney (Director of HR).”

A Culture of Customer Service and Family Ownership

Founder Dick Alexander remained committed to family ownership of the business – no easy task in an industry where ERP software companies are bought, sold, merged, or acquired on a regular basis. To this day his vision of family ownership for generations to come remains alive and well within the organization.

“We take pride in 45 years of family ownership, and we plan on keeping it that way,” says Alexander. “Years ago we successfully transitioned from first- to second-generation ownership, an evolution that many family-owned businesses struggle to achieve. In addition to myself, second-generation family members now occupy many key functional and departmental leadership roles in the company, including Research & Development, Finance, and Human Resources.”

Alexander credits the family ownership structure for much of the company’s long-term business success.

“Unlike most companies, our goal is not to maximize shareholder value,” says Alexander. “Instead, we focus on making sure our customers and employees are successful and happy. We want this value to radiate through all aspects of the business to ensure Global Shop Solutions is a long-term partner and employer.”

“Our success as a business depends on our ability to meet the needs of our customers in a rapidly changing industry, and that requires a long-term perspective,” he adds. “Our focus on the long term serves the best interests of the customer and aligns with our mission to deliver the best customer service in the industry.”

    Our People Make the Difference

Global Shop Solutions may be a technology company, but it’s the people that make it special. Since joining the company 31 years ago as the sixth full-time employee, Alexander has seen the business grow to more than 300 employees. The company has nearly 100 employees that have stayed with the company for over 10 years and dozens over 20 years.

“We have some of the longest-tenured employees in the industry and that drives our expertise and thought leadership,” says Alexander. “Employees constantly bring new ideas to improve our software. When customers need something done, they find a way to do it. And they serve as role models and mentors for other employees. I get calls, emails and texts every day from customers saying how happy they are with our software and service. I’m proud of our team for sharing the vision of making Global Shop Solutions our customers’ most valuable asset.”

Not surprisingly, Alexander sees Global Shop Solutions as more of a people business than a technology company.

“Developing ERP software is what we do, but our mission is to simplify manufacturing and help make our customers more successful,” he concludes. “What makes Global Shop Solutions special to me is the relationships we have with the people who use our software. Many of them also run family-owned businesses, and they feel like friends rather than customers. Striving to be their trusted partner keeps us looking ahead to see what we need to do and where we need to go to help them succeed. It’s also part of what makes this job so enjoyable and rewarding.”

  • THE WOODLANDS, TX, June 2, 2022 – The manufacturing industry is experiencing a huge labor crunch these days, with many companies falling behind in their month-end closing and financial reporting due to a lack of qualified accounting professionals. Global Shop Solutions, a leading provider of ERP software for manufacturers, has a solution for its customers – Virtual Controller, a new financial consulting service that helps manufacturers complete month-end on time and close an employee gap that could have a serious impact on their businesses.

“Virtual Controller helps our customers overcome the loss of experienced accounting employees by producing their monthly statements for them,” says Daniel Carranco, Director of Continuous Improvement for Global Shop Solutions. “Staffed with our most experienced consultants, the service enables users to complete their monthly financials in a timely manner until they can hire or develop qualified accounting professionals to perform this vital process.”

The immediate goal of the Virtual Controller service is to ensure the recommended month-end processing for customers gets completed on time. This involves reconciling accounts receivable and payables to the general ledger, inventory batch processing, inventory reconciliations, and more. The Virtual Controller team then analyzes the data to ensure the numbers are correct and generates financial statements and summary reports ranging from income statement results to month-over-month analysis and cost accounting reviews.

Completing month-end on schedule is only half the Virtual Controller process. Virtual Controller’s expert consultants also provide training and education to strengthen the ERP skills and financial acuity of manufacturers’ accounting personnel.

“A big part of Virtual Controller consists of helping our customers develop the analytical skills to understand what the numbers are saying and how that impacts their business,” says Carranco. “We teach them how to use the tools within Global Shop Solutions ERP software – such as our Sales Analysis and other Dashboards – to analyze what’s happening from a financial perspective, identify areas for improvement, and uncover issues that may need correction.”

As an online service, Virtual Controller provides access to Global Shop Solutions’ most senior consultants without  the time or financial burden of having them be on site. The service can be used on an interim or continuous basis depending on the customer’s needs.

“Our mission is to simplify manufacturing so our customers can continue growing their businesses,” says Dusty Alexander, President and CEO of Global Shop Solutions. “Virtual Controller handles routine financial tasks for customers impacted by the labor shortage and analyzes what the numbers mean so they can make the right decisions for their businesses. It’s a financial gamechanger for our customers at a time when we all have to do more with less.”

  • THE WOODLANDS, TX, April 13, 2023 – Success in the highly-competitive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software market requires continual development of new tools and technology advancements that simplify manufacturing. Global Shop Solutions, a leader in ERP software for manufacturers around the globe, is proud to announce the promotion of Trent Maynard to Director of Product & Engineering.

“Our primary focus at Global Shop Solutions has always been to simplify manufacturing for our customers,” says Dusty Alexander, President & CEO. “From Trent’s first day with us, he demonstrated a relentless attitude for finding new product advancements and technology to make our customers’ lives easier. That’s exactly the kind of person I want leading our product into the future.”

Maynard began his career in the manufacturing industry working for a company that was a customer of Global Shop Solutions ERP software. Shortly thereafter, he accepted a position at Global Shop Solutions providing software implementation and training for new and existing customers. He then transitioned to an operations and technical consultant and business analyst, where he designed and created tailored solutions for existing and potential customer challenges.

Prior to this promotion, Maynard served as an R&D Manager and created some of Global Shop Solutions most impactful product advancements in terms of meeting customer needs and positioning the company for new growth.

“My focus has been three-fold,” says Maynard. “Number one: hired and retained a team with some of our smartest people to position our ERP product as a technical leader in the industry. Number two: organized our base code to make our product run tighter, faster, and more efficiently, while also enabling customers to implement customizations without having to change the underlying code. Number three: simplified the process for customers to upgrade to new versions.”

    Serving Internal and External Customers

As Director of Product & Engineering, Maynard wants to make sure Global Shop Solutions creates an ERP product their customers love to use because it helps them do their jobs more effectively and efficiently. He also wants to attract new customers by offering a better product than they're currently using.

“Ultimately, it’s all about making sure our product ticks all the boxes for our customers,” says Maynard. “Often they don’t know what is possible, so we have to listen and understand what they’re trying to accomplish and then figure out how the software can solve their pain points. We also want to build a product that appeals to our employees, that our engineers can enjoy working on and be proud of and that attracts top talent to Global Shop Solutions.”

Full Speed Ahead to the Future

One shift popular for ERP software is the ability to integrate with outside software and technologies. Maynard’s responsibilities will include implementing artificial intelligence (AI) testing tools and best practices and modernizing Global Shop Solutions’ software interfaces and tech stack.

“How we build our tech stack has significant implications for what happens downstream with our customers, and I can’t think of a better person to lead the way than Trent,” says Alexander.

Mike Melzer, VP of Operations & Service at Global Shop Solutions, agrees.

“It's rare to find someone so talented in the technical field who also has extensive shop experience,” he says. “The one thing we've been really good about doing as a company is listening when our customers give us ideas on where we can get better. Trent is open to listening and then guiding the ship where we need to go. I trust his knowledge and experience, and his background gives us a huge advantage in our marketplace as our company continues to move forward.”
