From our inception ATS has been the worldwide leader in In-Die tapping technologies. From our original of TH21 series, TH31 and TH41 units, through the redesigned TH25, TH35 and TH45 series and now the SV45, SV55 and SV65 series servo driven units, ATS has always been first through Innovation not imitation.

Our direct line engineering and manufacturing approach allows us the build custom tapping units in weeks rather than months. All ATS tapping units come with complimentary die review. ATS engineers are available forWebEx meetings at your convenience.

The following is a list of the ATS innovations:

1965- ATS develops the first commercially available In-Die Tapping unit, the TH21 series. This unit utilized three camshafts or drivers.

1975- The launch of the “Quick Change” complete lead screw assembly. 

1980- The TH31 series is developed, this allowed for larger tap sizes.

1988- Bottom up tapping units. Developed to help reduce stripper travels and facilitate the tapping of more complex parts.   

1989- The TH41 series, for even larger diameter taps.

1994- The Rapid Advance complete lead screw assembly. 

2000- The Strip Follower is released. This revolutionary breakthrough invigorated the In-Die Tapping industry by eliminating long stripper travels and increasing SPM rates.

2006- The tap sensor.  

2008- ATS releases the servo driven IDT unit.

2011- ATS Air clamp.

2012- ATS releases the 2nd generation of Servo driven IDT units. 

2014- ATS announces the Dual axis servo controller. 

2016- The SV55 and SV65 servo IDT units are released. 

2017- SP1 connector.

  • Automated Tapping Systems has announced the release of it new single point connection for their line of Servo Driven In-Die Tapping units. The new SP1 connector will combine all tap sensor, air clamp, motor feedback and motor blower connectors into one IP67, NEMA 4 and 12 rated latching connector. All cabling is run through an air/liquid tight flexible conduit. This conduit also has an extreme impact rating.

    This new innovative approach will reduce set up time by eliminating multiple connection points. It will also reduce downtime as it greatly reduces the risk of multiple fractured connectors.

    ATS will have three Servo In-Die Tapping units on display at booth #A5255 to demonstrate ease of use and durability of the new SP1 connector


  • ATS servo in die tapping
    Automated Tapping Systems, will be demonstrating its latest Servo In Die Tapping Units with our new Servo Controller at booth #A5255. ATS will be running a 5- spindle servo driven tapping unit, tapping one hole horizontally and 4 vertically....

  • This unit will also show the ATS rapid advance and air clamp technologies. ATS will also have on display a dual opposing 90-degree tapping unit which also utilizes our air clamp technology. The ATS exclusive Air Clamp design allows the tapping unit to pilot and hold the part being tapped during the tapping operation. This feature along with tap detection and built in lubrication gives ATS customers a complete “bolt in” tapping station.

    ATS servo driven tapping units utilize the largest servo motors in the industry. This allows our customers the fastest stroke per minute rates possible. Since our servo motors are located outside the working area of the die, no additional die space is required.    

    ATS Servo Tapping Units are available in tapping from the top down, bottom up, 90 degree or any angle in-between. All ATS In Die Tapping units are available in Multi-spindle capacity. All ATS tapping units are also capable of running multiple tap sizes within the same unit. In addition, ATS will also be demonstrating a its full line of their full line of mechanical driven units, and high speed tapping units capable of running 300 strokes per minute.  

  • Servo driven horizontal In-Die Tapping
    Automated Tapping Systems will be demonstrating our servo driven Two Spindle horizontal tapping unit. This unit taps two m8 x 1.25 holes opposing each other from the front and back side of the strip....

  • This tapping unit was originally designed to run at the FABTECH '15 show in Chicago at rate 70 strokes per minute in an Aida servo driven press. The tremendous attention it received prompted Automated Tapping Systems and Aida to team up again at the FABTECH '16 shows in Las Vegas.

    This unit has been fitted with the new ATS SP1 connector to Speed set up and minimized down time. The tapping unit is also equipped with ATS's exclusive Air Clamp System which pilots the strip to the tapping unit and provides support for the tapping process.

  • SV100 Servo controller for ATS servo driven In-Die
    The ATS SV100 Single axis controller can be used to run any single motor Servo driven In-Die Tapping unit manufactured by Automated Tapping Systems. The ATS SV100 controller offers the latest SP1 connector....

  • The SP1 connector combines all tap sensor, air clamp, motor feedback and motor blower connectors into one IP67, NEMA 4 and 12 rated latching connector. This new innovative approach will reduce set up time by eliminating multiple connection points. It will also reduce downtime as it greatly reduces the risk of multiple fractured connectors. 

    The ATS SV100 series servo controller has the following features:

    Single Point Connection: eliminates multiple connections to the die.

     Die & Press Detection: has the ability to validate the job number in the press controller matches the die number.

    Load Monitoring: the controller can be set to high and low load limits to detect broken, dull or chipped taps.

    Stroke Counter: the controller can be set to a pre-determined number of strokes for scheduled tap changes.

    Air Clamp: The controller also activates and deactivates the ATS air clamp system.

    Program Storage: Stores up to 500 programs.

    Ease or operation: All programs are created using degrees of press stroke to dictate the movements, simplifying the program process. Shop personnel can be taught quickly how to create programs.  

    Can be run on multiple presses: Connectivity to the press is accomplished via a single quick-change connector making it convenient to move the controller from press to press.
