  • Novi, Michigan, August 23, 2018 – The Elect series of all-electric tube benders from BLM GROUP USA accommodates tube diameters from 42mm to 150mm (1.5-in. to 6.0-in.).  With multiple tool stack capability, it can produce fixed and variable radii in a single setup. The all electric operation of the Elect provides energy efficient production and eliminates the need for hose and piping associated with hydraulic systems. This helps to simplify maintenance and improve reliability for more consistent bending. These 9-axis systems are well-suited for tube production in a variety of industries including HVAC, furniture, automotive and aerospace.

    The Elect multiple tool stack capability can accommodate up to eight tools of variable radius at the same time. Both automatic or manual loading is available with the ability to position the automatic loader to the left or right of the machine. Additionally, a special loading cycle is available for heavy tube or multi-ball mandrels. The BLM Elect tube benders can incorporate automatic tube bundle loading and a handling robot for a complete turnkey solution that manages the entire tube loading and unloading sequence.

    Proprietary Software

    A key differentiator for the Elect series is BLM GROUP’s VGP3D three-dimensional programming software, which manages the entire system from a single point. Using part geometry data or 3D CAD data, VGP3D creates a part program, checks for part feasibility and calculates the real cycle time. By simulating the machine, tooling and the part bending sequence, it eliminates the risk of collisions, which typically occur during a first test run.

    Additionally, the machine automatically considers material composition and calculates the behavior of the part to minimize waste and guarantee part repeatability, process control, and accuracy even for complex parts.   Part marring that can be caused by slippage at the end of a bend or wear tool is also reduced.

    All part bend positions, tooling information and power parameters are saved within the part program, providing easy recall of the recipe when a job is repeated. This guarantees quick setup and changeover and provides lot to lot repeatability.

  • BLM GROUP USA will demonstrate its 3-RUNNER modular tube forming machine at FABTECH in booth #C10874 capable of straightening, forming and cutting on one machine.

    The all-electric 3-RUNNER is a modular and customizable machine that can be configured to grow with company needs. Users can start from an initial system with straightening and cutting and then transition to a complete production process that starts with coil and goes through straightening, forming (up to six stations), facing, cutting and programmable unloading of the finished part all in one continuous operation.

    All machine movements are managed by an electric axis with all part positions and power parameters saved together in the part program. No additional mechanical adjustments are required, helping the system achieve both fast setup and accurate positioning of all production phases and maximum repeatability.

    As an all-electric system, the 3-RUNNER offers simplified wiring and the elimination of hydraulics, helping to reduce maintenance requirements as well as wear on tube forming components.  The systems also offer reduced energy consumption, equal to just 4kW.

    The 3-RUNNER comes with BLM’s Syncro App, which allows users to monitor production from any mobile device whenever and wherever you need to. Personnel can continuously monitor all BLM GROUP machines online, see the machine status, receive alarm notifications and view the machine via a livestream video on the display, helping to eliminate any unnecessary downtime.

    More than a tube forming machine, the 3-RUNNER is a complete processing center that can be integrated into larger production processes to combine operations typically performed on multiple machines with multiple operators. This enables running several jobs in parallel, reducing cycle time and production costs.

  • BLM GROUP USA will demonstrate its E-TURN all-electric tube bender, capable of fixed and variable radius bending in right- and left-hand automatic cycles at FABTECH in booth #C10874. The all-electric drive ensures precision control of the 15-axes movement, providing consistency, high accuracy, perfect quality bends and zero scrap. Tubes in most materials and section types such as round, square, rectangle, flat sided oval and elliptical can be automatically loaded, bent and unloaded. The flexibility, accuracy and speed of the E-TURN makes it well suited for furniture, automotive, job shop, motorcycle and hydraulic pipe construction applications.

    A key differentiator of the E-TURN is the VGP3D programming and 3D simulation software.  By simply inputting the component bend coordinates, the complete bending program is graphically simulated, highlighting potential collision risks and producing the optimal working cycle. Component feasibility is checked virtually, eliminating the need for prototype tooling or physical testing on the machine.  Unloading of the finished component is also automatically managed by VGP3D, with the 180-degree head rotation allowing the component to be unloaded in the position required.

    Changeover times are significantly reduced and machine-setup simplified as all the critical settings for the machine tooling are managed automatically by the CNC including clamps, pressure die, mandrel position, retraction, center line radius, etc. Additionally, the self-calibration feature enables true simultaneous axis movement with automatic adjustment of these settings.

    The all-electric technology of the E-TURN offers reduced power consumption, typically offering 80% savings as compared to conventional hydraulic bending machines. Maintenance is also reduced due to simplified cabling and components.

    The E-TURN is available in four sizes capable of handling maximum tube O.D. capacity that ranges from 30mm x 2mm (1.18-in. x 0.079-in.) up to 50.8mm x 1.5mm (2-in. x 0.059-in.). Depending upon the system, the E-TURN offers a minimum bending radius of 25 – 35mm and a maximum bending radius of 150 to 165mm.

  • BLM Group USA will feature and demonstrate its next generation LT7 Lasertube machine capable of 3D cutting at Fabtech 2018 in booth #C10874. The LT7 is designed to improve productivity and accuracy through innovations in tube management and handling.

    The machine features a 3kW fiber laser that provides a broad working range that allows for easily cutting round, square or rectangular sections up to 6-in. in diameter. Special sections and open profiles can also be processed.

    Loading chains can be extracted from the rear standard bundle loader within seconds, providing the flexibility to load a single bar or open section quickly and simply. The loading and unloading systems also adapt to accommodate short and long parts with innovative tube supports throughout the process.

    The Protube monitoring system helps users to make accurate time and cost estimates based on processing time for an entire production batch. The system also prepares work orders and sends them to the machine, while a remote management feature provides real-time production progress monitoring, system operating statistics, estimates to the next batch change and more. Protube can be integrated with an ERP system to automatically distribute work orders to all connected BLM GROUP machines and technologies.

    Artube is a 3D CAD/CAM software that allows users to move from a design idea to a part in one click — simply enter tube dimensions to desired cuts to go straight to production.   • BLM GROUP’s new Lasertube system, the result of years of investment in technological research and the development of innovative software and hardware solutions. It is unquestionably the new benchmark for tube laser systems.

    The newest member of the Lasertube family processes tubes from 12 to 152 mm diameter and up to 23 kg/m bar weight. From the smallest to the largest tube, all adjustments are automatic. Sections with open profiles, L and U, and flat bars are considered part of standard machining and are processed in a fully automatic mode.

    The 3kW fiber laser source allows great flexibility of thicknesses and materials, from 12 mm of mild steel to 4 mm of brass.

    3D machining completes the framework of this extremely flexible system able to tackle the most  challenging cutting patterns.

    Productivity, quality and accuracy, flexibility, and ease of use: the LT7 has advanced characteristics and performance that fear no comparisons.

    Production rate

    The incredibly rapid machining speed is only one of the characteristics that make the LT7 system a real champion of productivity. Experience has shown that a Lasertube system should not be measured in meters per second, but instead in parts produced in the span of a single day.

    A fast and effective is exactly where the LT7 shows all its potentialities, with innovative solutions, that come from years of experience, like the scimitar bar change system together with the fully automatic section change, also for special sections.  The design of the rollers and chuck mechanism ensure parts are not marred during the process cycle.

    Extreme speed during both cutting and production change results in excellent productivity.  At the end of a working day when finished parts are counted, the LT7 has produced more parts than the other systems.

    Quality and accuracy

    The LT7 system is a combination of technological solutions that ensures quality throughout the process.

    Between the spindle and the steady rest, the supports driven by controlled axes are equipped with rollers and self-adjusting templates for optimum support both for small, light tubes and for large, heavy tubes. Downstream of the cutting area, the tube is supported by the unloading table, which is also equipped with rollers for side containment.  The rollers follow the position vertically providing steady and efficient support. Steadiness of tube during machining is a guarantee of quality and accuracy of cut.

    LT7 looks after the quality of the surface of cut pieces from loading to unloading, also in the event of delicate surfaces, by protecting the tube in every phase without ever letting it drop or bumping into items that could damage it.

    Finally, the combination of Active Tools and the cutting parameters database assure desired cutting quality with extreme simplicity are achieved. These are the elements that characterize quality and precision obtained from all the Lasertube systems and are present in the LT7.

    Flexibility and automated functions

    Flexibility is to carry out 3D machining on small tubes as well. The TubeCutter head, with autofocus, specifically designed by BLM GROUP for tube processing, is particularly suitable for 3D machining. The application of 3D machining on medium-sized tubes represents one of the most interesting innovations of the LT7

    Loading and unloading of the LT7 system are examples of unmatched flexibility for this class of machine. On the rear side, to ensure maximum reliability, the bundle loading system with pushers has been integrated with a chain loading surface that can be easily interfaced with automatic bar handling systems. On the front side, a wide access to the work area facilitates manual loading of a single tube to be eventually machined in semi-automatic cycle. Flexibility deriving from the use of auxiliary chains for loading the double loader is undoubtedly reflected on productivity. Preparing the next processing on the second loader, while the machine is completing the previous tube bundles, means saving valuable time and producing more parts.

    Cut parts, always separated from scraps, are loaded indifferently on front or rear side and deposited on accumulation carriages that receive parts carefully without dropping or dragging them.

    Ease of use

    The graphical user interface, designed according to ergonomic standards, is extremely clear and easy to use and only a few intuitive operations are necessary to start a new production.

    Programming is carried out by the powerful CAD/CAM, Artube which simplifies operations that have required years of experience in field to be developed. With Artube, transformation of a complex frame into machine programs for the LT7 systems is carried out in few seconds.

    In the end, the Active Tools are the functions that make operations on machine extremely simple. Just think about how much experience would be necessary to properly set drilling parameters that are automatically managed by Active Piercing or to find out cutting parameters in areas where speed slows down as Active Speed performs automatically in during the machining speed. Active Marking laser marks a part in a rapid and effective way according to parameters.  While Active Focus automatically and safely adjusts focus point position.


    LT7, as with all BLM GROUP Lasertube systems, can be used in connection with the BLM GROUP bending solutions in an All-In-One work cycle. Integration among production systems, with the exchange of technical information to obtain the realization of a cut or bent part from the first time, is a characteristics of BLM GROUP.

    ProTube Enterprise is the MES package developed to plan and monitor production of BLM GROUP systems and in general to interconnect these systems with the company ERP.
