  • Recently, Bystronic has significantly expanded its existing portfolio of sheet metal fabricating technologies with new solutions for automation, warehouse integration, and digital networking.

    Bystronic announces the full acquisition of their strategic partner TTM Laser S.p.A., a successful Italian technology company that specializes in the development of 2D and 3D laser systems for the cutting of tubes and profiles, and for the welding of large-format metal sheets.

    The development of a strategic partnership with TTM Laser in November 2017 has shown there is a strong demand for customers to be able to purchase all these solutions from a single source. The added value that is created allows customers to position themselves more successfully on the market. A supplier with a strong sales and service network not only simplifies the purchase and maintenance, but also the successful integration and operation of manufacturing solutions. With the acquisition of TTM Laser, Bystronic is deepening its existing portfolio for the laser cutting process step with applications for tubes with diameters between 1/2 inch - 32 inch, and for profiles.

    Innovative cutting bridge design

    One of the keys to achieving exceptional acceleration dynamics is reducing weight while increasing rigidity. Bystronic’s patented triangle cutting bridge enables the ByStar Fiber to take full advantage of the increased speeds generated by the high fiber laser powers and the linear drives, while maintaining axis rigidity during accelerations.

    The triangle shape enables a 40% increase in acceleration over square profile designs, a 60% increase in torsional rigidity and a 25% reduction in overall profile weight.

    Bystronic-engineered cutting head

    Harnessing the full laser power and focusing it accurately on to the work piece for each material type is the function of one of the most important elements of a Fiber laser cutting system, the cutting head. The Bystronic engineered cutting head not only has the capability to automatically focus for each material type and thickness, but also regulates the cutting beam diameter. Regulating the size of the focused beam enables the thinner materials to be cut with a narrow beam and the thicker materials to be cut with a wider beam, improving speeds and overall edge finish.

    ByVision Cutting

    The Bystronic ByVision Cutting CNC interface intuitively guides users through the operation process. The full 22” high definition touch screen provides maximum operating convenience and transparent process control of the entire manufacturing process.   • Xpert 150 Press Brake: Ultimate Bending Experience

    Equipped with the revolutionary Bystronic ByVision Bending control, the Bystronic Xpert 150 press brake offers unmatched efficiency and productivity capabilities. The powerful yet easy to operate ByVision Bending control uses a full 22-inch HD touch screen to display realistic 3D part animations and software driven menu selections. Bending profiles can be either imported or drawn directly on the touch screen and then automatically converted to a bending program with proper bending sequences and tool selections. A comprehensive database of material bend angles and bend allowances enables the ByVision Bending control to make a bending professional of every user from the very first experience. 

    Bystronic’s enhanced version of the Xpert press brake incorporates a high-speed ram positioning system and Fast Bend+ safety system for reduced bending cycle times. The high-speed ram positioning system is capable of reducing bend cycle times by 15% to 35%, in reaching approach speeds of up to 600 inches per minute and bending speeds up to 47 inches per minute without sacrificing accuracy.  The servo-hydraulic Xpert 150 press brake with dynamic press brake technology is the only press brake on the market that introduces no angle errors itself with a ram positioning accuracy of .00015” inch. 

    The Fast Bend+ safety system allows the machine to draw extremely near the sheet at high speed, so that slow movement is only necessary during the actual bending process.  This cuts the time required by approximately 20 percent.  Furthermore, it adapts itself automatically after each tool change and moves the machine to the correct tool height without any additional intervention.  If a tool is not recognized by the system, the machine stops, making it nearly impossible to use an incorrect tool, which increases the safety even more.

    Low energy consumption, less machine noise, and less heat characterize the Energy Saver.  As soon as the upper beam has reached the top dead center position after a bend, the main motor of the Xpert switches off automatically until the next bend process is started.  This does not change the operational flow and the process speed remains as high as usual.  However, it saves up to one third of the energy, produces less noise, and does not produce any excess heat.

    The Bystronic Xpert 150 adjusts ram position and crowning during the bending process in response to material properties. With the touch of a single button, the bending sequence and the positioning of the backstops are determined, the tool plan is created, and the process data is generated – all automatically.

    • Optical Bend Guiding guides operators of press brakes safely through all bending applications. LEDs indicate the correct position of the tool stations, back gages, and bending sequences.

  • Bystronic ByCockpit provides real-time information on sheet metal production processes.

    ByCockpit visualizes selected key indicators regarding machine performance and manufacturing efficiency. During the development of the ByCockpit, Bystronic’s IT specialists worked with a number of sheet metal processing companies. Their number one question was: How do users retrieve information from their machines in order to analyze and improve their production processes?

    For many sheet metal processing companies, the process of retrieving data from their machine systems and subsequently translating it into usable information is very tedious. They must deal with price pressure, short delivery deadlines, and increasing quality demands. This translates to mean that sheet metal processing companies nowadays are forced to respond quickly and to constantly improve their production. ByCockpit helps reveal deficiencies in the production processes.

    The ByCockpit runs on virtually all mobile devices -- laptops, smartphones, or tablet computers. Just like any other app, the ByCockpit is simply installed on the designated devices.

    When the ByCockpit is launched, a selection of approximately 30 widgets is available. Users can switch between pre-defined overviews and the favorites view. In the favorites mode, users can individually configure their ByCockpit. Using the drag and drop principle, they select the widgets that provide the required overview of their individual machine systems.

    The most important widgets

    One of the ByCockpit’s numerous widgets is the Sunburst view. It is a circle diagram that displays the condition of the entire production at a glance. Green bars denote machines that are currently in operation. Red bars show machines that are idle. And blue bars combine all the systems that are connected to form an assembly line.

    With a click, users can switch to the overview for the laser cutting process step. Here, the status widget displays the output (kilowatts) with which the laser is cutting, the total operating hours of the system, and whether the next service should be scheduled.

    Another widget in the laser cutting overview displays overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) which is determined by such factors as machine availability, parts output, and the quality of the cut parts. In addition, the OEE widget allows a direct comparison to be drawn to previous production cycles.

    The next click leads to the overview of bending jobs. Here, the performance widget provides information about the number of bent parts produced, the time required to produce them, and the number of tool changes. This overview allows the bending set-up times to be optimized.

    The parts performance widget determines the development of the bending time for parts over time. A diagram provides a daily overview and thus reveals deviations in the production processes. It also enables a comparison to be made between manual and automated bending.

    The widgets in the storage overview provide detailed information about the materials in stock -- what raw materials are in the warehouse and in what quantities. The overview lists all the material with weight and purchase value. In addition, it enables direct comparisons to the inventory at earlier points in time.
