Formdrill manufactures Formdrills to help you Form your Own Inserts. Formdrills use friction/heat to form holes and push through a bushing from the displaced material that is normally cut. These formed bushings generally triple the material thickness providing more wall surface that can be tapped to avoid the use of welded nuts or inserts. Typical cost for these formed inserts is about 1 cent (US). This 1 cent cost is to be compared to the cost of a threaded insert or a nut to be welded. Resulting joints are as strong as a welded nut of the same diameter.
Process can be implemented in drill presses, milling machines or CNC systems. They save labor, time and cost of materials.
