  • Floating Clamps from Carr Lane Mfg. Co. are position-flexible swing clamps with 110° rotation that both clamp AND support the workpiece. Perfect for aerospace machining, floating clamps are especially useful for clamping forgings, ribbed or flanged castings, and other larger parts. Often used in conjunction with primary locators and clamps, they provide additional support points and reduce machining vibration of thin, light workpieces such as sheet metal, carbon fiber, and aluminum. The clamps adjust to your workpiece with light spring force before locking, to prevent deformation.

This versatile clamp supports a load capacity up to 1800 lbs, and can be used on a fixture plate, a modular tooling plate or a T-slot machine plate. The jaws are adjustable to a wide variety of part sizes, and are replaceable with custom jaws.

  • Air Rest Buttons from Carr Lane Manufacturing use pneumatic position control to detect proper workpiece loading in a machining fixture. Made in the USA, these modular units consist of a threaded body installed in a fixture, which holds a precision floating plunger. The plunger has a reamed hole, available in a choice of three diameters, which accepts any height of Carr Lane's standard press-fit-type rest buttons. Proper placement of a workpiece on the Air Rest Button assembly causes the plunger to fully retract into the body. This seals off air flow, which increases the overall pressure of the system. This pressure value can be read using an analog or digital pressure sensor which can then be tied into a PLC or control system. Patent pending. Look for Air Rest Buttons on display at HOUSTEX at Carr Lane Mfg.’s booth #1638.

  • Air Rest Buttons
Air gap sensors giving you trouble? Here's your solution: carrlane.com/mysolution
Take the guesswork out of loading parts. Whether you run your operations with robot or human guidance, Carr Lane Mfg.'s Air Rest Buttons deliver feedback with every load....

  • Air Rest Buttons allow using pneumatic position control to detect proper workpiece loading in a machining fixture. These modular units consist of a threaded body installed in a fixture, which holds a precision floating plunger. This plunger has a reamed hole, available in a choice of three diameters, that accepts any height of our standard press-fit-type Rest Buttons.
Proper placement of a workpiece on the Air Rest Button assembly causes the plunger to fully retract into the body. This seals off air flow, which increases the overall pressure of the system (30 psi maximum air pressure). This pressure value can be read using an analog or digital pressure sensor which can then be tied into a PLC or control system. Patent pending. Made in USA.
  • Floating Clamps
    This is no ordinary clamp.
Bottom and top jaws work independently to clamp AND support your workpiece, regardless of size....

  • Floating Clamps are position-flexible clamping devices. The top jaw and bottom jaw together provide a floating clamping point that adjusts to the workpiece before locking, to prevent deformation. These combination clamp/supports are often used in conjunction with primary locators and clamps, providing additional support points to reduce machining vibration. Floating Clamps are especially useful for clamping forgings, ribbed or flanged castings, and other larger parts.
To initiate clamping, push the Floating Clamp downward, then immediately swing the jaws into clamping position. The clamping jaws will automatically rise so that the bottom jaw contacts the workpiece with a light spring force. Next, tighten the top hex nut 11 ft-lbs minimum to 22 ft-lbs maximum, depending on the support load capacity desired. During the tightening process, the workpiece is clamped and simultaneously supported.
For custom applications, the standard upper clamping jaw supplied can be replaced by a special clamping jaw.
