  • Polyrix Release Large Scale Surround Scanner Solution

    Polyrix has released its Polyscan XH large scale surround scanner solution. PolyScan XH is designed to measure parts up to 6500mm combining 2380 scanning units. The versatile measurement system is well suited for automotive sheet metal components ranging from a door to a full-length vehicle body-side.

    PolyScan XH can operate flexibly as a hybrid scanning volume configuration whereby only the center scanning units are utilized for smaller parts achieving a faster cycle time or used with all of the scanning units active for larger components.

    The surround 3D Scanner has no moving parts allowing PolyScan to be the solution of choice for general purpose metrology applications or automated inspection. Unlike CMM and robot scanning solutions the surround scanner eliminates the need to program inspection trajectory with data quickly captured from every angle with no time lost due to sensor movement.

    The PolyScan XH surround scanner is controlled from the PolyScan Control Center with its software controlling the hardware and performs all the necessary computations for the inspection. It is fully compatible with all major 3D inspection software providing output data in a standard format. Polyrix provides a complete integration with PolyWorks inspection software. Computations are distributed to speed up data-processing using a total of 21 computers.

    The system offers ‘Live Inspection’ whereby the calculated deviation color map is projected directly onto the measured part upon completion of the inspection cycle.

    The scanning system mechanical structure is designed to remain stable with all braces kept rigid and mounted on isolation pads to block vibrations. The casings allow the aim of each optical unit to be adjusted.

  • LARGE-SCALE 3D MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR PARTS UP TO 6500MM

    The PolyScan XH is designed to measure part up to 6500mm, combining 2380 scanning units. It’s a versatile measurement system, well suited for automotive sheet metal components ranging from a door, to a full-length bodyside. System can have a hybrid scanning volume configuration: using only the center scanning units with smaller parts for a faster cycle time, or use all the scanning units for longer components.

    SOFTWARE

    Surround Scanning has been made possible by the tremendous amount of R&D Polyrix has put into software development since 2005. At the core of this process, the Polyscan Control Center (PCC) manages data acquisition from all scanning units, then generates the 3D models. Polyscan operation is made easy by the Automation Manager simple interface, or 3rd party software plug-ins (e.g. PolyWorks|Inspector Plug-in).

    The PolyScan Control Center provides three levels of security: operator, inspector and administrator. For the operator, everything is as simple to operate as a barcode reader. The operator can inspect production using inspection layouts provided by an inspector. The inspector will have previously setup the inspection layout associated with any barcode. He is also responsible for the creation of those inspection layouts. Through PolyWorks® by InnovMetric, for instance, it is possible to setup any GD&T verification and perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) automatically on the operator generated data. The administrator is responsible for all scanner level settings and can assign security level to any user.

    ELECTRONIC

    State of the art computing is assured by a set of set of twenty-one (21) computers using the latest generation CPUs and totalizing 704 GB of RAM. Computations are distributed across this architecture to speed it up. A gigabyte switch handles all the network communications.

    MECHANICAL

    The PolyScan XL is huge. Its mechanical structure is meant to stay stable in spite of its size. All the braces keep it rigid. The isolation pads on which it is mounted, block most of the vibrations. The casings allow aim to be adjusted for each optical unit.

    NO MOVING PARTS

    By design, Surround 3D Scanners have no moving parts. Thus, the PolyScan is the solution of choice for Metrology or Automated inspection because it is:

    • - SIMPLE: No need to program inspection trajectory, unlike CMM and robot scanning solutions
    • - FAST: Data is quickly captured from every angle. No loss-time due to sensor movement.
    • - SAFE: There are no risk of collision with an operator. No costly enclosure and safety systems are needed.

    THROUGHPUT

    The Polyscan offers high inspection throughput, which means higher return on investment. Simply put, the more parts get inspected, the more problems are avoided.
