 Press Releases

  • DETROIT, MI, May 21, 2019 - Formalloy, a metal additive manufacturing company, is demonstrating their award-winning directed energy deposition (DED) systems at the RAPID + TCT show including their latest Alloy Development Feeder (ADF). The Alloy Development Feeder (ADF) enables high throughput bulk alloy synthesis for development of new materials and alloys.  According to material development expert and University of California San Diego Professor Dr. Kenneth Vecchio, “The ADF provides an unprecedented capability for material development and research”.

The need for new alloys optimized for additive manufacturing is not only evident by researchers and materials companies, but for end users as well. In particular, end users of additive manufacturing in the Aerospace and Automotive industries are investing in new materials that have superior properties to the traditional materials which were developed for traditional manufacturing processes. By innovating in the alloy development space, Formalloy is enabling not only researchers, but also the end users by enabling rapid development of new alloys that can be utilized for product improvement and enhanced material properties for their own products.

In addition to new alloy development, the ADF enables precise deposition of gradient materials. Each layer is pre-alloyed to ensure composition accuracy for detailed gradient strategies that are not achievable with other processes. Gradient parts can offer enhanced material properties and simplification of multiple-part assemblies made of various metals into a single part.

  • DETROIT, MI, May 20, 2019 - Formalloy, a metal additive manufacturing company, is demonstrating their award-winning directed energy deposition (DED) systems and solutions at the RAPID + TCT show, including robotic integration. As metal additive manufacturing adoption continues to expand from prototyping and demonstrator components to production components, scalability in both size and throughput is required. By integrating the same components from a full system into a robot or production cell, Formalloy is further enabling that transition.

The Formalloy X-series boasts improved quality, better powder efficiency, and the ability to print with the most comprehensive list of metal alloys on the market. Each machine comes standard with the Formalloy AX Metal Deposition Head and a customizable build volume with up to 5-axes of motion.  The Formalloy AX head has proven reliability for up to 8kW of laser power and built-in quick-release features allowing for rapid maintenance and component swaps in under 3 minutes.  As an alternative to purchasing a turn-key metal deposition system, a robot can be integrated with the Formalloy AX deposition head, Formalloy ADF or PF powder feeders, and laser to 3D print, clad, and repair metal parts.
