  • The DeHoff 1024C-6 is a six spindle gundrilling machine used for high-volume production of automotive camshafts. The machine is designed to gundrill a hole down the centerline of the camshaft to reduce weight. This enables a Tier 1 automotive supplier to produce lighter camshafts in large volumes for use in new high-efficiency engines.

    The 1024C-6 has a gundrilling capacity of 1 inch (25.4 mm) and a slide travel of 24 inches (610 mm). It features six gundrilling spindles on a single machine base, and utilizes adjustable tailstocks and hydraulic workpiece clamping. The camshafts are automatically loaded and unloaded using a lift-and-carry material handling system.

    The machine features steel box ways and hand-scraped mating components (instead of linear guide ways and milled surfaces). This results in superior vibration damping, extended tool life, and improved surface finish.   • Every new Eldorado gundrilling machine now features an updated operator control panel. While still using a PC-based system featuring Beckhoff controls, both the hardware and software have been improved with job shop operators in mind.

    The display screen has been enlarged to 7 inches, which allows for larger graphics and easier-to-read menus. Touchscreen capability has also been added to improve menu navigation. Large pushbuttons have replaced the keypad, which makes the control panel more durable and easier to use in a shop floor setting.

    The new control also features CNC G-Code programming capability, which allows the customer to write their own gundrilling programs. This improves machine flexibility with options like variable feeds & speeds, drilling peck cycles, dwell times, and many other basic G-Code capabilities. A simple USB connection for an external keyboard makes it easy to quickly type new G-Code programs while standing at the machine. These features are very useful for job shops that are always running different size gundrilling jobs.

  • The DeHoff 218-4 is a custom-designed gundrilling machine for producing hollow stem engine valves. Several domestic and international companies have utilized the machine to manufacture valves for use in high-performance engines. A small-diameter hole is gundrilled in the stem of the engine valve, and is then filled with sodium to improve the valve’s heat transfer capabilities during the combustion cycle. This enables engines to achieve higher levels of fuel mileage and/or horsepower.

    The 218-4 has a 0.25-inch (6.4 mm) gundrilling capacity and an 18-inch (457 mm) gundrilling depth. It has four gundrilling spindles on a single machine base, and utilizes precision chucks and workpiece counter-rotation. The machine also has a magazine loader and servo-driven gantry automation system.

    The machine features a durable design that incorporates a cast iron drill head base with hardened and ground steel box ways, plus hand-scraped and fitted saddle, gibs, and straps (versus linear guide ways and milled surfaces).
