Thermwood Corporation, located in Southern Indiana and established in 1969, offers a new line of Large Scale Additive systems used for the production of large to very large reinforced thermoplastic composite parts for the aerospace, automotive, boating, foundry and thermoforming industries.  Thermwood’s Large Scale Additive Manufacturing system, called LSAM, uses a two-step, near-net-shape production process which prints slightly larger than the final size, then it is shaped to its exact final size using a CNC router.  The LSAM is used for the production of tooling, molds, masters, patterns, fixtures and plugs.  Thermwood also offers both three & five axis CNC machining centers ideally suited for the production, fabrication and trimming of wood, plastics, non-ferrous metals, composites and other advanced materials.  Thermwood is a US based company with distributors worldwide and provides support, machine installation, training, retrofits, custom programming and production assistance.

  • Thermwood Corporation has developed a new product for the Additive Manufacturing industry.  The LSAM (Large Scale Additive Manufacturing) system is used for 3D printing reinforced thermoplastic composite materials for producing industrial tooling, molds, patterns, masters, plugs and fixtures for various industries.  The LSAM can perform both the “additive” and “subtractive” functions on the same machine. This approach uses a two-step process, near net shape production process.  The part is first 3D printed layer by layer to slightly larger than the final size.  Then the subtractive function machines the part to the exact final net shape.  This process starts with our LSAM Print 3D software which operates within Mastercam.  The LSAM can grow a part 10ft Wide by 10ft Long (Up to 100ft Long) by 5ft Tall.  The LSAM can print anywhere from 100 .lbs/hour up to 500 .lbs/hour depending on which Melt Core is used.
