Sixpenny Additive is a Canadian metal additive manufacturing service bureau founded with a clear purpose: to enable the rapid, cost-effective production of large-format metal components using advanced Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technologies. As the additive manufacturing division of Sixpenny Architectural Fabrication—an established and highly regarded metal fabrication company based in Ontario—Sixpenny Additive brings deep experience in digital design, precision fabrication, and engineered systems integration to this new frontier in advanced manufacturing. We are proud to serve as the official Canadian distributor and robotic integrator for Meltio, a global leader in wire-laser DED technology. At the heart of our production platform is the Meltio Engine, a compact, high-performance print head that uses standard welding wire and a patented multi-laser system to build near-net-shape metal parts with excellent material properties. The system can be integrated with robotic arms or CNC machines, allowing unprecedented freedom in build size, orientation, and hybrid workflows. Unlike powder bed fusion systems, wire-laser DED is safer, more scalable, and significantly more cost-effective for the production or repair of large metal parts. DED offers faster deposition rates, broader material compatibility, and virtually unlimited build volumes, making it ideal for sectors like aerospace, defense, power generation, marine, transportation, and heavy industry. Typical applications include structural brackets, hydraulic manifolds, fuel nozzles, turbine components, heat exchangers, and custom tooling—parts that are too large, expensive, or geometrically inefficient for traditional manufacturing methods. DED also enables metal repair and cladding, extending the life of critical parts and reducing downtime. As a Meltio-equipped service bureau, Sixpenny Additive offers end-to-end support: from additive design consultation and toolpath development to robotic printing, post-processing, and quality assurance. We collaborate closely with engineering and R&D teams to help optimize part design for additive manufacturing (DfAM), minimize waste, and dramatically reduce lead times. In addition to our manufacturing capabilities, we work with organizations across the country to support the deployment and integration of Meltio systems into new and existing production lines. Whether you're exploring hybrid CNC setups or turnkey robotic cells, we provide engineering, installation, and after-sale support. Sixpenny Additive is at the forefront of Canada's metal AM movement. With a firm grounding in fabrication, a focus on large industrial components, and a unique position as Meltio’s Canadian representative, we are bridging the gap between emerging additive technologies and practical, real-world manufacturing needs.
