Lasermet Inc

Lasermet present their “Laser Castle” – the latest generation of the modular, rapid-build LASER SAFETY CABIN with the patented integrated Active Laser Guarding System “Laser Jailer” for multi-kW lasers – typically 4 to 20kW. Certified as laser safe, the cabin is used for laser processing, laser cutting, laser welding and laser cladding. The numerous cabin options include interlocked automatic doors such as the Falcon Active Speed Door, guillotine doors, turntable doors or double doors.
Cabins are designed to suit your needs and can be as big as an aircraft or as small as a table top. Most are typical room size enclosing one or two laser robots - often integrated with automatic doors, active filter windows and all are interlocked and can be integrated with the customer's control system.
The Screen operated Laser Interlock Controller (SLIC) prevents access inside the cabin when the laser is enabled and operates the optional Active Laser Filter Window system, “Glaser Jailer”. Further options include HDCCTV and Lasermet’s “Swallow” Fume Extraction System.
The Falcon Active Speed Door is Lasermet's fast acting roller shutter door with the latest integrated active laser guarding system designed specifically to prevent the escape of laser radiation during laser processing operations. The roller shutter door has the "Laser Jailer" active safety system built in and is linked to the laser controller which only enables the laser to fire when the door is closed.

The Laser Castle V8 is the most advanced laser safety cabin yet. As a modular, rapid build cabin, it is ready to protect personnel from laser radiaton in one of two days - depending on the size. Sizes range from table-top laser enclosures to full size cabins capable of enclosing a number of laser robots and items as large as trains or planes. These Class 1 cabins ensure the Class 4 lasers do not radiate outside the enclosure. The cabins include numerous options such as a range of manual or autodoors, fume extraction, active laser guarding- (providing immediate protection against multi-kW lasers), containment, lighting, illuminated LED warning signs, full laser safety interlock control and full integration with customers' control systems.

The LaserJailMaster is an interlock controller designed specifically to monitor the active windows and walls within a laser enclosure. It does this by interfacing with Lasermet’s patented “Laser Jailer” active laser guarding detector circuits which are installed and connected back to the unit. If any of the detector circuits are struck by the laser inside the cabin the interlock isolates the laser safety input thereby stopping any further laser radiation. This is achieved within 50ms.
The LaserJailMaster consists of two modules – one is the master unit and the second is the expansion module (Son of LaserJailMaster). The master unit has two interlock operator outputs and four separate active guarding monitor circuits. Each expansion unit that is added increases the number of monitor circuits by four. Up to 20 expansion units can be added enabling large and complex enclosures to be monitored.
Two external volt free circuits are needed to arm the system. The LaserJailMaster accepts these arming signals (usually from a PLC) and checks the monitored circuits. If all safe conditions are met the laser is armed. The unit has a dual channel cross-checked architecture and when correctly wired can realise a system compliant with EN ISO 13849-1 up to performance level ‘e’.

Laser Jailer is Lasermet’s active laser guarding system. The purpose of the patented Laser Jailer system is to ensure that no laser radiation escapes from the laser cabin where laser welding robots operate. As welding or cutting can require multi-kW lasers to be used, the potential for harm or damage outside the cabin can be great. Therefore it is essential that no laser radiation escapes. This is achieved as follows. The complete internal area of the cabin is covered with flexible detector circuits. Imagine a small sheet of wallpaper with electrical circuits within it. These are connected together and back to the interlock controller which then continuously monitors the electrical properties of the circuits. If any of them are inadvertently struck by a laser (thereby changing the electrical properties), the controller isolates the interlock operator which consequently stops laser radiation – all within 50ms. Once the detector sheet is damaged it needs to be replaced and this is easily achieved within a few minutes. The controller is reset and the process can continue safely.

Glaser Jailer is an active filter window that prevents the escape of laser radiation outside the cabin or enclosure. It works in the same way as the Laser Jailer Active Laser Guarding system. Fine monitoring circuits are embedded within the filter window and these are monitored by the interlock controller. If any of the electrical properties change as a result of a laser strike, the controller isolates the laser interlock operator preventing further laser radiation all within 50ms. Personnel outside the cabin are therefore protected from the radiation.

The Falcon Active Speed Door is Lasermet's FAST ACTING ROLLER SHUTTER DOOR that has the option of integrating an active laser guarding system designed specifically to prevent the escape of laser radiation during laser processing operations. The roller shutter door can have the "Laser Jailer" active safety system built in. It is then linked to the laser interlock controller which only enables the laser to fire when the door is closed. The door parameters are:-
• Speed 0.6m/s to 1.8m/s (adjustable)
• Typical Open Close Time <3 seconds
• SEW Motor
• Inverter Options: Allen Bradley, SEW or Lasermet.
• Safety: PLc Bump Switch; Safe edge; Photocell

The SLIC is the latest touch screen operated laser interlock control system that connects to the main interlock controller (ICS-7-SP) via an RS232 link. The interlock will only enable the laser to fire once all switches and doors are closed.
The SLIC is a laser interlock control system which is connected to the laser via a rack mounted controller. The interface to the controller is by means of a screen where the icons representing doors and switches can be seen and change color according to the status.
